Homeopathy for Kids - More than Aconite

Updated on February 29, 2012

My son was born with a sternomastoid tumor in his neck. This meant that he was unable to turn his head to the right side due to the tumor swelling. It was a tough thing to see my three day old baby unable to nurse because he was unable to turn his head.

The doctors ran a gamut of tests and we subjected my week old infant to everything from an X-ray to blood tests and even a sonography. Eventually the doctors said that the tumor is benign and may disappear on its own in about a year.

If it did not they would undertake a minor surgical procedure and with a nick in the neck have it removed. These are not thoughts that a new mother can handle with ease. The new father even less so! We were both getting quite stressed out. And feeling so helpless for the first time in our lives was not a pleasant feeling.

At the time I was home at my parent's place having gone there for the delivery. My father is a major proponent and believer in the alternative medicine system of Homeopathy. So after this diagnosis he called in his expert for help. The kindly gentleman who came to look up the baby seemed more like some one's lovable old uncle than a doctor. However when he started talking one could see just how well he knew his cures.

He started my baby off on a course of Homeopathic medication. This lasted for 3 months. The little sweet sugar pills were also difficult for my month old baby to swallow so we used to dilute the sugar pills in water and then spoon feed the medicine to him. Yes it was tedious and slow but at the end of three months the knot in his neck was half its size! The medicine worked and it worked well. By six months the swelling had all but disappeared.

I showed it to his regular doctor, who just said that these tumors disappear at times, and said he would no longer need surgery. Yes the baby still had stiffness in the neck and was unable to turn his head all the way to the right like the way he could turn his head to the left, but it was a testimony to the efficacy of homeopathy as an alternative form of medication. Since then I have used Homeopathic medication on him as far as possible.

Common Ailments and Cures

Disclaimer : I do not have any formal training and do not claim to be an expert in the Homeopathic system of medication but these are medicines that I use on my son and find effective. You may like to consult a doctor before you begin medication for your children.

Aconite Nap. 30 - If your child complains of a sore throat and can feel the flu coming on a dose of this medicine may prove beneficial.

Arnica 30 -If your child falls down and hurts himself, this is a drug which will promote fast healing. Specially if there were no cuts and just some bruises.

Arsenic Alb. 30 - When your child keeps falling ill with cold and fever repeatedly he might benefit from this medication.

Bryonia 30 - Got a cough that just wont go? Fed up of all the cough syrups? Try out this medicine. It may help ease the cough out of your system

Bella Donna 30 - Has your child got exposed? As the result been a cough and a cold and not to mention fever? This is the one to go for.

Carbo Veg 30 - Flatulence, indigestion, bloated feeling and tummy aches of unknown origins get treated fast by this medicine.

Chamomilla 30 - For children who get irritated easily. Those who find it difficult to relax and sleep. This is a soothing drug to calm them down.

Ferrum Phos 30 - the Homeopathic equivalent for paracetamol. When your child gets fever for whatever reason, use this drug to control it.

Ipecac 30 - For kids who have running noses and lot of greenish yellow discharge. This works well with them.

Podophyllum 30 - For dentition diarrhea in kids. This is when the kids are teething and put everything into their mouths and as a result have a perpetual tummy upset.

Sometimes doctors are all too willing to rush people to surgery. I'm so glad that you found another way. Good on you for doing the best for your son!

Yes Ixxy it was not short of a miracle for us. Homeopathy helped my son at a time the allopathic doctors were getting ready to roll him into surgery.

This is a great boon for homeopathy, no doubt. I am very happy to hear that your son didn't need such a potentially invasive surgery, and happy to see him doing quite well today!

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience. I can imagine the amount of stress involved when it comes to your baby.

And it proves that we need to get 2nd opinions. And sure, an option as safe as the homeopathy remedies is worth a try. It turned out to be successful. I'm so glad.

Another great story about healthy medical options. Thanks so much!
