You read it right, hookworms are supposed to CURE allergies, asthma, and even other diseases, such as Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, and ulcerative colitis.

People have to become infected first. How do they do that? Well, if you live in a third world country, pick any place in Africa, all you have to do it go to any village and walk through the out house feces the villagers leave behind! No they don’t have indoor plumbing like we do.

So, what do you do if you cannot afford to fly over to Africa and walk barefoot in human waste? No problem! You can head down to Mexico where they have a doctor who knows all about hookworms and how to infect you! And, it only costs 4000.00 plus travel costs. A real deal! However before you head out, you better think it over a bit. Americans are often kidnapped in Mexico and then held for ransom until one of your relative’s pay up. If Grannie does not come up with the money to free you, they will cut your head off with a rusty knife, That would probably be worse than having allergies by a long shot!

Don’t worry, be happy! Even though the FDA bans such treatments, where there is a will there is a way.

For a mere 2900.00 there are people who will send you the hookworms and support you until you are well which is of course different for everyone. Because health insurance does not cover hookworm therapy, you will have to come up with that 2900.00 all on your own. And God forbid if you should complain that 2900.00 is too much to pay for 10-15 hookworms, the optimal amount. These hookworm vendors, who by the way are probably harvesting the hookworms free of charge from their own bodies, have an entire page on how poor they are and how hard they work, and that 2900.00 is a deal, that hookworm therapy should cost even a lot more than 2900.00.

Let’s look at this a bit closer. We are talking WORMS here, not too far removed from the worms you get at a bait shop. Worms do not cost a whole lot, because they are plentiful.

Second, the hookworm vendors will tell you about all the endless research they are doing on your behalf, and guess what? They are experimenting on their clients. Yes, those people who are desperately ill in some cases, and are paying 2900.00 for 10-15 hookworms are actually the guinea pigs for these people and worse yet, they are paying big money for being the guinea pigs! The hookworm vendors should be paying their patients for using them like the guina pigs they are, not the other way around! In this case, treatment should be free of charge.

The hookworm vendors will tell you they are dead broke, living from hand to mouth on the brink of homelessness. They are not getting rich off the 2900.00 they are charging. Well, if they are telling the truth, then they do not have very many people buying their worms, and they should go out and get a real job, or they cannot handle money very well. I’m leaning to the latter.

The hookworm vendors never tell you where they get those worms from. My guess is they are harvesting them from their own gut. They never address the problem of too many hookworms in your gut. Worms do two things, they eat and breed, and if you start off with 10-15 hookworms, I can guarantee you that it will not be long before you have thousands of hookworms and that could be a lot worse than the disease you are trying to CURE! Indeed, the cure is not lasting. You need a continuous infection of hookworms for the cured disease to stay cured. Of course, you will have to pay for re-infection. The hookworm vendors do not tell you how to harvest your own hookworms. Not like you would want to.

I believe some alternative therapies are great! If I wanted to try this therapy for myself, I would probably go to New York and befriend a recently arrived African. With one billion people infected worldwide with hookworms, there is a good chance our African buddy could be infected, and I bet he would give up a few hookworms for a good meal. Of course, sooner or later you would have to get de-wormed, and whatever disease you tried to “cure” will probably come back with a real vengeance.

In Victorian times, women ate tapeworms to keep their weight down and some died as a result. Let’s not go back to those times. People still die each and everyday around the world from parasitic infections. To self induce a parasitic infection may be more risky than you know. People should never take chances with their health, everything in your life depends upon your good health, it is your most precious resource.

Some things are best left to medical research, where people go to college for 12 years before they would even think of diagnosing a disease, much less treating one. Of course, our hookworms vendors would not be able to make those claims for themselves as they endlessly toil away with ongoing research on hookworm therapy.

Really? Not sure, though certainly stranger things have happened. I'd like to think of a 'better' healing method. Very interesting hub though and comments too.

Oooohhh, I know that I've read that hook worms and other worms can be helpful in healing, however, can I try something else first. LOL! :)

Thank you Happy her for you comment and I agree!

I think there has to be more research in this area. I can guarantee it that if you were sitting in on a major surgery that you would not want it either. That is just the nature of medicine, kill or cure..LOL!

What I wonder about is...these hookworms were originally harvested from Africa, and who knows what other things could possibly come along with the hookworms. I have very little education in that area so I am not 100% sure, but when this one guy was walking through the human waste of Africa to get infected with hookworms, I am wondering if HIV and AIDS did not come to his mind, along with a million other bacteria that may be harmful to your health.

I think we should leave this one to the professionals. One day we may use hookworms to enhance our health, but I want sanitized hook worms!

I would love to be rid of my allergies, but the thought of something crawling around inside my body doesn't seem worth it.

Thank you Samasons 1 and Dreamreachout for your nice comments.

Thank you also to Greg for stopping by and leaving a comment. I am happy that there is someone out there doing real reaserch on hookworms. Perhaps there will be some therapy one day that will help people. In the meantime, I still do not think it is right for people to have to shell out 2900.00 out of pocket for hookworm therpy!

Hookworms don't multiply inside the body, their life-cycle requires incubation outside the body so you will never have your internal population increase on its own. Hookworms live 3-5 years in the body so hookworm vendors will generally have a guarantee of infection for that long. If you lose the worms in that period, you get re-infected for free. There is good science behind Hookworms and other helminths modulating the immune system in a positive manner. A simple search will bring up government sponsored research and human trials in Australia, England, and the United States, just to name a few.

This is a hub with a difference much in Blake's mould!! Initial lines doesn't allow us to understand the message you are trying to deliver!! But in the end its a hub with a punch packed in!!

magzz, tell me how does the educated people fall for these bizzare and stupid ideas and so called therapies!! My brain will never understand!!

Nice to read your new hub but I also wanted a hub from you as a celebration of your two years on hub pages!!

voted up, useful & funny! Great hub, read during lunch- I have asthma, and would do almost anything to reverse the hold it has on my body..., almost; not lay out $2900.

useful, because you are exposing the culprits-

funny, because educated people would fall for such a scheme..., maybe I should have said, sad...
