Living With Multiple Sclerosis

Living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has unique challenges. If you have MS you don’t need anyone to tell you about the facts and annoying nuances of the disease, and its effects on your health that you can’t do much about. At times your battle can exceed exhaustion and you grin and bear it most of the time but you must admit that you could use some help on occasion.

Well here’s good news for you. There are some things you can do and adjustments you can make in your life that can dramatically facilitate living with MS. You may be fighting a disease but there’s no need for you to struggle with everything all of the time. Granted complications from MS are inevitable and are certain to pop up from time to time. But why not just minimize or eliminate those problems or frustrations that you can do something about instead of carrying the whole load yourself.

Daily Routine For Success

One of the major changes that you can make in an effort to ease the load on yourself is how you do the things you do in your life. We’re talking about your daily routine, around the house, on the job, when you’re out and about in town shopping, running errands and other daily commitments. Just think about the number of activities you perform from the time you wake up in the morning until the time your head hits the pillow each night to go to sleep. What about how you cook and the type of pots, pans, can openers, utensils and other kitchen tools you need to get the job done and maintain safety too. Does the thought of cutting and chopping make you nervous? You can take preventative measures against accidentally cutting yourself from a slipping knife or burning yourself from metal serving or stirring spoons? There are gadgets that can help you open jars, cans and bottles. There are food processors that do nothing but cut and chop or specialized knives with extra grip or even all in one systems that basically chop and cut for you if you can supply the elbow grease strength.

Just in case you haven’t heard, there are reaching, grabbing and extender gadgets in the marketplace. Each is basically a reach and grab tool that can assist you when you need to get something off a shelf, out of a closet or just out of reach. No doubt it has saved many backs and prevented not a few falls. They can be of use to you too. Although that's how they're advertised, they're not just for your grandmother or grandfather anymore. Consider how many times have you inadvertently put something you need just out of reach. If you've just gotten yourself comfortable and remember you need this or that but it’s over there, you can identify with this. Now if it’s in another room a grabbing gadget won’t help much but if it’s just a few feet away, it could save you from getting up if you don’t have to. This gadget can help you preserve your energy.

If you have trouble putting on your clothes, socks, and shoes from time to time or even everyday for whatever reason, you’ll be glad to know that there are daily living aids and products that help with that. Someone invented useful gadgets to help you put them on. Some of the sock gadgets involve putting your socks on a type of frame, then slipping your foot inside the sock.
The shoe gadgets are basically designed to help you finish the job of pulling the shoe up over your heel since sliding one’s foot into the shoe doesn’t seem to cause much difficulty.
And you would think that to have help for buttons and zippers would be too much to ask but you’d be wrong because yes, there are gadgets that can assist with buttoning and zipping your clothes. They work along the same basic idea of inserting the item, in this case the button or zipper into the gadget itself then transferring or pulling the button or zipper to where you need it.

Do you often find yourself exhausted and lack the necessary strength to lift yourself out of the chair you’re sitting in? Lift chairs and recliners have been around for awhile. As we get older that seems to be a common problem. A chair like this could help you too. If you’re thinking that’s not for me, just think about how you’d appreciate the extra help instead of sitting there until you can muster up the get up and go strength.

Not sleeping well can rain on anyone’s day. And if it continues night after night serious health problems can occur. If you suffer from what some call, insomnia sleep; then besides falling asleep at work or in less than optimal locations, your health can suffer immensely. Do you get a good night of rest and sleep most nights? Are you bothered by noises or other distractions that prevent you from sleeping? Simple gadgets like white noise machines similar to those used in babies’ nurseries could be a big help towards helping you to get a good night's sleep.

And don’t forget about your bed. How comfortable is it? There’s new technology showing up in the bed and mattress marketplace too. You can be as comfortable as you want to be. It’s not just firm or soft, lately it’s also temperature controlled and customized for the contour of your body, including all the twists and turns you make throughout the night in your slumber.

Of course you’ll instinctively look to Goggle in your initial search for the perfect gadgets and products. It’s a great start. Begin your search with the query, ‘Gadgets for Multiple Sclerosis’. It’ll bring up more than enough results to get you well on your way.

Once you’ve exhausted the Goggle search(which is unlikely),you will have to get more resourceful and hit the streets to unearth the type of gadgets you need. You need to begin thinking like a treasure hunter, realizing that some clues may be in plain sight, such as trade magazines.
