Meditation: How I Accidentally Cured My Seasonal Allergies

The Discovery

I have an interest in mental and physical health. After doing some research I came across some meditation programs. They  promised  to make meditation easy and more effective than meditating by myself. There was also a long list of benefits but some of the claims seemed far fetched. I wanted to see if they worked so I got one and tried it out.

To use it I had to find a quiet place, put on a pair of headphones and sit in a relaxed position. When I was ready I pressed play. The first time I used it I became deeply relaxed. I continued to use it for 15 minutes every night. It was enjoyable and required very little effort. The first major benefit I noticed was that I had more energy. I was waking up earlier and I had more energy throughout the day.

Meditation Cured My Allergies

I started meditating in late winter. As spring came I was bracing myself for allergy season. I knew my allergies would start bothering me soon. Usually I stayed inside and kept the windows closed. When I went outside or if the windows were open I took allergy medicine. However that year was different. It was the first year my seasonal allergies did not bother me.

The medicine I was taking did not help much and made me tired. Meditation cured my allergies and gives me more energy. It also has a lot of other health benefits. You do not need to meditate every day but if you stop meditating your allergies might start bothering you again.

I can not guarantee meditation will cure your allergies but it worked great for me.

Allergies and Your Immune System

Allergies are caused by an improper response from your immune system. When you are relaxed your immune system works better. If you are stressed or depressed your immune system is impaired. People that meditate regularly are more relaxed. As a result their immune systems work better and allergic reactions are reduced or eliminated.

The way you breath is important. I learned to use deep slow belly breathing. Your belly should expand and contract and your breaths should be slow and steady. This method is healthier and it keeps you more relaxed throughout the day.

Healing exercises like tai chi, qigong and yoga will also give your immune system a boost. These exercises strengthen your mind and body while leaving you relaxed and energized.

I recommend meditation for any one that suffers from allergies because it cured me.

      I agree with this article. My level of meditation seems to correlate with how bad my allergies are. When I go weeks without meditation my allergies remind me to get back on it!
