How I quit smoking very easily
How I started smoking
I live in Prishtine the Capital of Kosovo (it's a new country with a history of conflicts in the Balkans in Europe).Most of the people ethnicity here is Albanian,me too.Smoking cigarettes is a very popular thing here from a really young age,for example in a traditional wedding the hosts will give each guest a cigarette even if the guest is a young child,and most of the parent's won't have a problem for them to light it up since it's a wedding.
My father smokes like 3 pack's a day since his 20's hes 56 now.
My older brother(25) and My Mother(49) Smoke a pack a day each.
I used to smoke on these weddings and sometimes with my friends lighting one up for fun
but I never really inhaled it until I was 13,when me and my friends started buying packs,stealing from home,hiding in emergency stairs in our old buildings,smoking like 10 cigarettes in 2 hours because we could not go home with them on our pockets,even though later we used to hide them in the building lobby,streets etc.
My smoking time
Tobacco,I like to say cigarettes contains nicotine.Nicotine is a potent parasympathomimetic alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae) and a stimulant drug,based on wikipedia.
Nicotine is addictive,and your body and mind will crave it after you use it a couple of times.
Other than that,I thought I'm doing something when I'm smoking,
I thought I'm feeding something I really need to feed,
I thought it will get me out of boredom,and of course I would like the image of myself with a cigarette lighted up as I saw many famous people.
I smoked until 18 now I'm 21.
While I smoked I tried to quit here and there failed many times,
Quit for a month,Quit for a week,always used to start and smoke again.
I remember staying on my computer all night until the morning hit ,stealing my mother's or father's pack and use to smoke almost all of them when I ran out of mines(most of the time because I never had much money,but Now I'm looking forward to always have money)
Also there's this thing that smoking after eating food is delicious,you just could not wait to smoke after eating something,and cigarette used to be something you can't go anywhere without.But I guess most of the smoking people already have this feeling and they know it.
And the majority of people ,even non-smokers will tell you with a convinced mind that Smoking is really hard to quit,so this would block your true mind to even think that you don't need a "Hey I have to work out ,drink water,eat chewing gum,try to stop my mind to think of cigarettes everyday after I quit".
How I quit smoking
So it's 2012,February or March I'm not sure , I decide to quit smoking
while researching I read that nicotine leaves your body in 21 days and after that you will kick the addiction,I waited patiently,with my mind on cigarettes and hesitating to grab one and smoke it all the time,I was feeling the illusion of the smoke on my throat all the time,but I passed 21 days.
Wow,I did not really recognize anything easier on my mind just because the nicotine got out,but I continued to not smoke for 2 months,but all the time I was having a hard time doing it,it was the longest I quit by then but I started smoking again.
So I felt like hey I quit for 2 months,started smoking again and I did not really do anything,because you are still smoking.
Fast forward August 2012,I'm with a friend having coffee in the neighborhood bar it's 6 or 7 pm,and we were talking about quitting,so we decided to quit and we had this bet,the one who starts smoking will owe the other one 20 Euros (which is big for our standard in Kosovo,also it was when we were younger).So in my life I always would research on internet about everything cause I could not open up to people,but also the quitting smoking thing is not something that people advice would help much,so i was reading on internet all night 2 days after I quit,and somewhere (I think it was Yahoo answers) I saw a comment about a book called "The Easy Way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr. Of course I had the feeling that it's a book that just want attention or money specially from the basic title of it,but I also was following my intuition.Started looking up people's opinions on it and It was surprising to see the book having great feedback ,So I ran to search for the pdf file,
Read like 20 pages in the first night,I used to be a lazy
dog (still am a bit).
after 1 day I read 20-30 more,I felt the vision of the book,and it explains how easy it really is
but there's just a huge misunderstanding and manipulation in the whole tobacco industry which makes us believe it's hard to quit.The book is really good because the author even tells you to keep smoking while reading(even though I quit by then),I read some more pages and I still remember sitting on my computer having this "ahaaaaa" moments and I started jumping out of happiness cause I just knew I'm over it.I didn't even read the full book to get it out of my mind to be honest,than i send it to my best friend back than,he also quit,from that the book got spread to a lot of people here and I know many that quit by it, it's like 95% who read it quit and they never have a problem with cigarette anymore just like me.I never craved a cigarette anymore,and the book just made me realize that our belief system plays a big role on how easy and hard we make things out to be.

I don't even try to convince people anymore,I share my experience and tell them about the book,the ones who give themselves the opportunity to read it are the lucky ones,
Nowadays I just think "They really made me so stupid to think that a cigarette has such power against me "
