How To Think Like Successful People: 7 Thinking That Will Change Your Life

Updated on July 14, 2016

When it comes to living a successful life, we just cannot get away from discussing the mindset.

In fact, what separates the ordinary and the extraordinary is the mindset. Successful people act differently because they think differently.

On the other hand, ordinary people have their own set of thinking too. And it is your thinking that will shape your life.

If you want to change your life, start by changing your thinking.

Adopt the right thinking, the empowering thinking, and the success thinking, you will eventually be successful.

Below are the 7 thinking that successful people adopt. You must think like them in order to act like them and to produce the result like them.

Here’s how to think like successful people…

#1 – Think Responsibility

No matter what happened in life, you must take full responsibility for it. This is your life and you have a choice to decide how you want to live it.

Stop complaining about your boss, your company or the economy, instead, take responsibility and look at yourself. What have you done that makes you deserve success?

Always check on yourself first. Never blame and never complain.

You are who you are right now because of the decisions you have made and the actions you have taken in the past.

If you are very successful today, it is because of your action. You are the one that created your success.

Conversely, if you are living a mediocre life and are getting nowhere, take the responsibility. You are the one that allows things to happen and you are the one that took all the actions and made the decisions.

As long as you never take responsibility for your life, you will never go forward. I have seen people got stuck in their lives blaming their parents or their companies for years, and they wonder why they are not successful.

Get a life! Look at yourself and check on yourself. Take the responsibility and say this, “This is my life and I decide that I’m going to live the successful life I have always wanted.”

Do you get it now? For things to change, you must first change. You must take responsibility for it and only change can happen.

#2 – Think Big

Think bigger, enlarge your vision and go big. You are not supposed to live small in this world. There’s nothing to gain from living small.

Most people are afraid to think big because they are afraid. They fear:

  1. What if they fail?
  2. What if they succeed and they can’t handle it?

These are small thinking that will limit your potential. Do you know how much you can accomplish and how much potential you have? There’s no answer to the question and you will never know until you do.

How do you know if you will fail? And how do you know you can’t handle success?

So stop being scare and start thinking big. Let your big dreams and big goals drive you. Stop living in mediocrity and start living with passion.

Life is short and you are destined for big success. Nobody can tell you what you can or can’t accomplish, so go for your dreams.

You have to make your dreams and your goals excited the moment you think about them. You want them to fuel your motivation and drive you.

Successful people are able to work long hours and work day and night because they are motivated by their dreams. They are inspired by their big thinking. You have to do the same.

Think big and let your dreams inspire you to move forward and to achieve more.

#3 – Think Action

One of the main reasons people fail to accomplish what they want is because they are not taking enough actions.

They dream about what they want and they think about it, but that’s all they do. They never take much action and they are not consistent.

The action is the bridge connecting your dreams and your reality. If you want to bring your dreams to the real world, you must work to close the gap between the two.

There’s no way to avoid hard work. You cannot achieve an outstanding result and be the best in what you do without taking action.

Lionel Messi, the football star dedicated his success to his hard work. In one of his advertisements, he said, “It took me 17 years and 114 days to become an overnight success.”

Do you think Michael Jordan was born a basketball champion and that he acquired his talent naturally? Absolutely not, in fact, he was rejected by his team because he just does not have the talent!

However, that did not stop Michael Jordan from giving up on his dream. He worked on perfecting his skills day and night. He arrived at the court earlier than other players and he trained hard. And the rest is history.

So commit to taking action each day. Work on your dreams until you achieve them. No excuses and no questions.

#4 – Think Success

Do you know that successful people think about their dreams and their goals most of the time while ordinary people think about what to do and what to eat most of the time?

In other words, successful people think about success all the time.

Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba said that he just can’t stop thinking about growing his business every moment. He thinks about it when he is in the toilet; he thinks about his business when he is eating; he breathes, eats, walks and sleeps with his dreams.

So what do you think about most of the time? Do you think about what to do later or what should you eat for lunch? Or probably you are thinking about where to enjoy tonight or this weekend?

Your thinking shapes your life. You will become who you think about most of the time.

So choose to think success all the time. Think about your dreams and think about reaching your goals.

Your thinking will create the intention and your intention will put you into action. Hence, if you constantly think about watching a movie, you will end up watching the movie.

And if you constantly think about the success you want, you will create the intention and move toward it. You will take action, you will act on your dreams and you will reach your goals.

#5 – Think Positive

Successful people are positive and they expect good things to happen.

Do you think that Steve Jobs or Richard Branson is going to invest millions of dollars into growing their business if they are thinking negatively about their companies, their business, their products or the market?

It is impossible. You cannot move forward and you will never venture out of your comfort zone if you expect bad things to happen.

When you believe great things are going to happen and you expect it, you will then work on it and do your best to it.

This is why negative people will never go anywhere and they will not advance in life. Positive people are totally different. They expect great things and thus, they take action and as a result, they are advancing forward.

So throw away all your negative thinking now. Stop mixing around with negative people who tell you it is not possible or people who always blame and complain.

Les Brown said, “If you mix around with losers you will end up a loser.” If you want to fly with the eagles then swim with the ducks.

Mix with positive people who will support you to go forward and share great things with you.

#6 – Think Different

Do you know “Think Different” is the tagline of Apple? You have to dare to be unique and be different.

If you are trying to be like everyone else and doing the same thing as every other people are doing, you will never be successful.

Successful people are different because they dare to challenge the conventional and do something that opposed the crowd. They follow their hearts and they do what they think is right, not what the crowd thinks is right.

When Richard Branson was stranded in Puerto Rico airport due to flight cancellation, he acted differently than normal people. He charted a plane and sold off the rest of the seats to those stranded customers.

This was how he got the idea of starting an airline. Would you do the same? Do you dare to be different?

You have to trust your intuition and your inner voice. You have to believe in yourself and your dreams. If you don’t, who else would?

#7 – Think Passion

You cannot go far if you do not have the passion for what you do. What do you love to do and what are your passions?

Steve Jobs once said that success is difficult and most people quit because they do not have the passion. Here’s a meaningful quote from him:

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

Therefore, look for your passion. Discover your inner talents and find out what you love to do and tap into it.

Great people are great because they are able to produce remarkable results. And this is all because they are passionate about their work.

So how can you find your passion?

The answer is simple, you dig deeper into your work and you will discover passion. Think about the work that makes you happy and learns more about your work.

Dig the subject matter deeper and you will eventually dig out the passion.

You can develop passion through constantly learning, talking, thinking and actually doing more about the work.

The more you involve yourself in your work, the more passionate you will be.

These are the 7 thinking every successful person owned. You must adopt them and program these mindsets into your subconscious.

Remember, take 100% responsibility for your life, always think big, take action, think about success all the time, be positive, dare to be different and live with passion.
