Please Note .Smelly feet can sometimes indicate serious health issues such as hyperthyroidism, hypoglycaemia, gout and other problems. They can also be indications of changes in hormone levels due to the menopause , or you could be suffering from hyperhidrosis ( excessive and sudden sweating) If you are worried your sweaty feet may be an indication of a more serious illness please do not hesitate to go and see your GP as soon as possible.
Always Dry Your Feet Properly - Specially Between Those Twinkle Toes
What To Try First
It´s important that good hygiene is practised. This means giving your feet a really good wash at least once every day with a good antibacterial soap, and then drying them properly, making sure you dry in between the toes, before dusting or spraying with a antiperspirant anti bacterial preparation. Make sure to put on clean socks if you wish to wear them afterwards.
Keep hard skin from forming as this becomes spongy when your feet are damp or sweating, and makes an ideal breeding ground for the bacteria and fungi that can cause athletes foot, and also foot odour.
Always wear wool or synthetic socks that are specially designed to soak up and lock in any perspiration as these are better at keeping your feet dry and fresh.
If you have to wear closed shoes, try not to wear the same pair every day. If you do have to, then make sure they have a chance to dry out overnight. Stuffing them with newspaper can help this, or just leave them out somewhere where the air can dry them. I also like to put liners in my shoes for added comfort and to help keep them fresh. Liners containing charcoal will help to absorb any moisture and neutralise odour.
Natural fabric and leather shoes will help your feet to breath more easily, thereby helping to limit how much they may sweat.
Wear open shoes or sandals whenever you can, again even these are better if they are made from natural materials.
Always make sure to dry your feet properly, this applies equally after taking a paddle in the sea on your summer holidays or after swimming. Even in the heat your feet will remain soggy between the toes unless they are dried properly and this can lead to athletes foot.
Feet Still Pongy ? Then Try This Remedy To Treat And Cure Smelly Feet Fast And For Good
If all the suggestions above have been tried and your feet remain smelly then the next step is simple and effective and should cure not only the problem of bad odour, but also clear up Athletes foot and fungal toenail infection too.
All you need to do is buy some Potassium Permanganate. You may be able to buy or order this from your local chemist. If not it can be bought on-line.
Mix the crystals or powder with warm water in a suitable bowl, and soak your feet in this solution for 15 minutes per day for 2 weeks. This should get rid of the Bromodosis for good. ( dilution rates should be explained on the packaging, but if not you will need about 10 small crystals to a bowl of warm water or a teaspoonful of powder)
If you are treating Athletes foot. 2 weeks worth of this treatment should also be enough. But if you have a fungal nail infection you may need to continue longer as this is very hard to eradicate.
For fungal nail infections I would recommend gently filing the top of the infected nail or nails with a disposable file ( you must throw this away after each use, and do not use it on other uninfected nails as you will spread the fungus) before dipping your feet into the bowl of Potassium mix. This will help the solution to penetrate into the layers below. Then soak your feet for 15 minutes per day for the first 2 weeks. And then for 15 minutes per day, twice per week after that until the infection has completely gone. This may take quite some time as fungal nail infections are so difficult to get rid of.
Always use your own towel ( not a shared one) and make sure it´s an old one as the Potassium Permanganate will stain it as well as your feet. But this is a small price to pay for odour free pinkies.
Potassium Permanganate can also be used to toughen up your feet if you are planning a long hike and are prone to blisters.
If for some reason this doesn´t work for you, or you have other concerns, it may be because there is something else going on with your health, in which case it would be advisable to make an appointment to see your GP.
Please note that I am not a Doctor or a Podiatrist or in anyway connected with these specialist fields. However my husband used Potassium Permanganate to cure his foot odour problem and it worked like a charm and he never had it again. So I hope this method helps to treat and cure your smelly feet fast and for good.
