Treatment Methods for Decayed Teeth Are Several

Treatment methods for teeth that have decayed are several but the most common ones include the filling, root canal treatment, scaling and replacement of natural teeth with artificial teeth.

All these treatment methods for teeth cost money and time. The good thing is that they keeping dentists in their jobs at your expense. Seek treatment early for any form of tooth decay. This will save you pain associated with toothaches as well as your money and time. It is very important you prevent tooth decay by practicing good oral health care as well as consulting your dentist at least twice a year.

Dental Filling

This is the most recommended treatment for decayed teeth that are sensitive to heat, cold and sweet foods or drinks. The decayed parts of the tooth are removed and the hole is filled using dental filling material. The material will quickly harden when put into the hole in the tooth. Within a week, the fillings are comfortable and food can be chewed the normal way. The filling will take a dentist about 30 minutes and this is usually not very painful.

Root Canal

If your tooth is damaged "beyond repair" like being broken in an accident and normal filling is not effective, then a root canal treatment is done to the tooth. This root canal is only done if tooth decay has spread to the nerves and blood vessels which normally are associated with severe toothaches. Root canal is in terms of expense on the upper range and you will have to visit your dentist at least twice for one root canal treatment.

The First Visit

On the first visit, the dentist will give you a pain killing injection and then will go ahead and remove the infected blood vessels and nerves. The root canal will then be cleaned thoroughly and enlarged. He will prescribe some antibiotic medicines and allow you to go home.

The Second Visit

On the second visit, the dentist will be interested to know if pain was experienced since the first procedure. If not, the dentist will clean the canal and then will do a normal root filling. Practice good oral care to prevent root canal filling and even if root decay set in, seek early treatment for normal filling instead of waiting too long for a root canal.

Scaling is Cleaning

If tartar which is a hard deposit that are stuck on the tooth surface was to be cleaned, that cleaning is referred as scaling in dental science. This tartar will combine with bacteria and immediately start tooth decay. The tartar becomes very hard after only a few days and can no longer be removed by normal brushing with toothpaste. Scaling is therefore done to remove tartar which is the home of bacteria that brings tooth decay, gum infection, gum bleeding, bad breath and consequently the teeth fall off.

Artificial Teeth are Not from Dead People

Artificial teeth are carved from hard plastic or porcelain. Artificial teeth are not from dead people. If your teeth have fallen off due to decay or accidents, then your dentist may suggest replacing them with artificial teeth. Artificial teeth should be cleaned just like natural teeth to control bad breath. You should seek advice from your dentist on how to care for your artificial teeth. If well done, artificial teeth are excellent replacement of your natural teeth and usually people should not notice the difference between them and your natural teeth. It is however very important to stress that in as much as we may say there is not noticeable difference, your natural teeth are the best and you should endeavor to preserve them as much as you can by good oral health care practices.

Cost of Artificial Teeth is High

And talking of artificial teeth and cost, it is widely common in some poor countries for people to have a decayed tooth removed and to retain the gap without a replacement with an artificial tooth due to the fact that the cost of the artificial tooth is beyond their means.

Seek Early Treatment for Tooth Decay

It is therefore very important to seek treatment early for any form of tooth decay. This will save you pain associated with toothaches as well as your money. It is very important you prevent tooth decay by practicing good oral health care as well as seeing your dentist at least twice a year.
