How to Stay Cool in the Summer
When summer approaches most of us think of sandy beaches and hot fun in the sun. We exchange those over-worn winter parkas and snow boots for our bathing suites and sunglasses because warm weather is on its way!
Most people enjoy the summer but there are some that find it not the greatest of the seasons because the body tends to overheat and perspiration can be uncomfortable if the humidity it off the charts. If you live in a particularly hot climate and want to cool your body temperature down, here are a few tips on how to stay cool in the summer.
1. How to stay cool in the summer with a fan and ice
Obviously if you live in an air-conditioned environment all of your problems can be solved with the flick of a switch. However, if you don’t have that luxury or simply want to conserve energy, then another cooling method you can use is using a fan with ice. There are fan units that allow you to add ice within the device to give you a blast of cool air.
Another option for how to be cool is to put a bag of ice behind the fan with a drop bucket below it to catch the melt off. If this sounds too difficult to assemble, simply open a window and place the fan in front of it to draw fresh air into the room. Both of these options can help your body be cool faster.
2. How to stay cool in the summer using your bathroom
Here are several things you can try in your bathroom to cool off. First, you could try having cool showers throughout the day if the heat is unbearable. If that isn’t enough, pour a few ice cubes in the bathtub and have a nice soothing ice bath to bring your body temperature back to normal again. Be sure not to make it too cold though -- you don’t want to get hypothermia. That would be bad.
Another option you could try is to soak a towel in cold water, squeeze out the excess water in the sink and wrap the damp cool towel around your head. Cooling down your head will significantly help your whole body to be cool faster.
Lastly, if you’re still in the bathroom and feeling hot, try running cold water over your wrists for about 10 to 20 seconds. Doing this will radically decrease your body temperature for about an hour or so. This also works well with your ankles or feet. Stick your feet in a bucket of cool water and it will have the same effect.
3. How to stay cool in the summer with other remedies
There are several other options to choose from for how to be cool on a hot summer day. Try wearing a wet T-shirt, loose fitting clothing or even wearing nothing if the people in your house could care less about you being completely naked.
If customizing clothing isn’t your cup of tea, you can always adjust other elements in your environment to make yourself more comfortable. Turn off all heat sources in your house to both conserve energy and cool your body down. The stove and lights in your living quarters all generate heat so it’s best to leave them off if you want to be cool. Closing the blinds always helps too if you get a lot of direct sunlight.
Remember the summer season doesn’t always have to be sticky and uncomfortable for you. Using many of these remedies will show positive results for how to be cool in hot weather.
