What Causes Dandruff?

Dandruff is caused by too much oil production of your sebaceous glands. Dandruff that is due to oily skin is characterized by greasy skin with yellowish flakes. Experts also say that severely dry skin causes dandruff. This is particularly experienced during winter. This leads to itchy, flaking dandruff. Dandruff can also be a result of some conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

6 Tips to Get Rid of Dandruff Fast

1. Use an anti-dandruff shampoo.

The next time you visit your favorite supermarket, don’t forget to buy an anti-dandruff shampoo. There are a lot of choices available for you; you just have to make sure that you grab the one that is appropriate for your problem. It is best to seek advice from a medical professional in choosing which product to use that will help treat dandruff.

2. Watch your styling products.

Do you use hair spray or wax? What about a cream that curls your hair? Do you have a variety of lotions, gels and other styling products that keep your hair looking good? You may not realize it but these very same products can very well be the reason why you get dandruff. Some products contain ingredients which can irritate your scalp. Some leads to oiliness and others dry out your scalp. It is highly recommended to limit your use of styling products. Also make sure that you remove them completely at the end of the day.

3. Use a humidifier.

You may have noticed that you are more prone to dandruff during the winter season. The dry and cold weather contributes to the drying of the scalp, making dandruff more likely to occur. One simple way to turn this around is to buy a humidifier. This increases humidity or moisture in your house. Make sure that you keep the humidifier clean to prevent bacteria and mold to build up.

4. Sun Exposure.

Sun exposure is a common treatment for some skin problems and recommended for keeping the skin healthy, provided that the amount of time spent under the sun is very limited. As you all know, too much exposure to sunlight can be harmful and aggravate existing skin problems or cause new ones. Experts suggest spending brief amounts of time in the sun to remove dandruff. Remember to use sunblock to keep the rest of your skin protected from the harmful rays of the sun.

5. Eat a balanced diet.

The best way to get rid of dandruff fast is to start from the inside. It has always been considered that your daily diet affects the way you look on the outside. Eating healthy foods will help you have beautiful and young looking skin. In the case of dandruff, foods rich in zinc, omega-3 and B vitamins help a great deal. Excellent sources of these nutrients are fruits and vegetables, red meat, fish, eggs, whole grains, nuts and dairy products. In addition, it is recommended to keep yourself hydrated. Drink plenty of water to help you avoid getting dry skin.

6. Manage stress.

Do you know that stress and anxiety causes dandruff? This means alleviating stress can help you with your dandruff problem and not to mention, it also promotes a healthier lifestyle. Have a positive attitude, engage in a regular workout routine, and seek support from family and friends. These might seem irrelevant but they can actually help you get rid of dandruff.

Thank you for the tips. I am 49 years old and have never had dandruff before, until now. The only thing that has changed is the water. We have to put the salt in the water to soften the water. I believe it is from the hard water. It has extra calcium. I am truly going to try you tips.

I think hair spray and mousses are a big culprit here, the only times I ever had itches or flakes so I never use them.
