How to Lose Eight to Ten Pounds in One Month!
One month ago, I was frustrated. Suffering from a debilitating back injury, I was unable to be the active person that I was accustomed to being. After getting injured in February, I gained 20 pounds from being sedentary. I knew then and I know now that if I am going to recover from this injury, that I will have to lose this weight and get back in shape. I tried all kinds of pills and cleanses that did little or nothing. I took pills that were designed to block fat intake. I will spare you the details on that one. You and I are just not that intimately associated. Then I bought an e-book.
I am not saying that I followed this book to the letter. That would be a lie. I did, however, take a few seeds of wisdom from it and apply them to my life in a way that works for me. The book is The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman by Timothy Ferriss. In this book Mr. Ferriss suggested two life changing notions to me. It is a pleasant read though. Mr. Ferriss is a gifted writer who has a wonderful sense of humor.
The first seed of wisdom that I took away from this book was the use of Macadamia Nut Oil for salads and cooking. This stuff actually tastes just like butter even when you cook an egg in it. Kids don’t try that with Olive oil. I now substitute Macadamia Nut Oil in most all of my foods for butter.
The second was to consume 20 grams of protein at each meal especially within one hour of waking up in the morning. There are many ways to do that, but I discovered that I was not so motivated upon rising to cook up egg white omelets or a steak. I began searching for a workable solution for me.
I researched the protein content of all of the major protein supplements at my local stores. I found them to be about equal containing around 9 grams of protein each. I wanted more. I love Greek yogurt and one serving contains 13 grams of protein. Mix the two and I would be set. I began researching smoothie machines. I needed something that would clean easily because I am essentially lazy.
I will spare you the hours of research that I put in to making my decision. Skipping to the chase, I chose the Magic Bullet. Don’t laugh like all my friends did, it is not “That” bullet. It is the one that makes smoothies. Easily obtainable on line and comes with all kinds of fun attachments, cups, blades, and do dahs. At around $100.00 I was fully prepared to send it back if it failed me.
Once my machine arrived, I began to experiment with making my protein shakes. I discovered that Carnation Instant Breakfast, now called Carnation Breakfast Essentials contains about 9 grams of protein when mixed with skim milk with less fat and fewer calories than most of the popular protein shakes. The added bonus is that it also tastes better. And did I mention that it only costs a fraction of what the “protein” powders and drinks cost?
The recipes are endless. I stocked the freezer with frozen fruit. Then simply by putting the instant breakfast powder into the cup and adding a serving of Greek Yogurt, some frozen fruit and topping the cup off with skim milk; I am done. It takes me less than two minutes to make a breakfast loaded with vitamins, minerals, 22 grams of protein, and fiber from the fruit. I could do this. Better yet, my husband and my daughter decided that they could do it as well.
Ta Da! Four weeks later, I am 9 pounds lighter. I have two protein shakes a day and one regular meal. I am still unable to exercise very much, but at least I am not becoming obese. My second shake of the day is before bed. I used to love ice cream. I still do. So how do I eat ice cream and lose weight?
My nighttime shake is made with chocolate malt flavored instant breakfast, about 1/3 cup of dry non-fat milk several ice cubes and topped off with skim milk. It tastes just like a chocolate malt made with ice cream without the bad stuff. It satisfies my ice cream cravings.
Another favorite recipe of mine is vanilla instant breakfast, vanilla Greek Yogurt, frozen peaches, and top it off with skim milk; peaches and cream, yummy.
You want strawberry ice cream? Take strawberry instant breakfast, strawberry Greek yogurt, frozen strawberries, and top it off with skim milk. The more frozen strawberries you use, the thicker your ice cream.
Best of all is the cleanup. All you do is rinse the blade, drink your shake, rinse the cup and put it in your dishwasher. I knew that I loved it. How did I know that I had scored a home run? My husband said that the Magic Bullet was the best purchase that I have ever made, and it wasn't even his idea!
