How to Lose Weight in Just a Week

Updated on September 18, 2015

Losing weight is quite charming obsession for nearly everyone. It is one of the top New Year resolutions that most people make every year round the world! There are many options available to try from but most people gain weight even faster after their dieting spell ends. The reason for the failure of these crash diets is simple –most of the people leap back to gluttony! It is as simple as that -you need to be consistent with whatever diet you are following and make permanent changes to your lifestyle.

There are many diet plans that don’t keep you away from your favorite food for more than a week. Here I briefly go over some of the most effective and successful 7-day diet plans:

General Motors (GM) diet

It was basically developed for the wellness and fitness of employees and dependants of General Motors, Inc. but you can try it out surely as it is tried and tested diet. It targets the weight loss of 10-17lbs in a week and you can surely repeat it for some more weeks if you wish to lose further weight. It is basically designed to detox your system of all the impurities and cleanse it thoroughly. It also brightens your complexion and makes your hair healthy. The GM diet plan goes something like this:

Day 1: Consume all fruits except for bananas. Focus on watermelons and cantaloupes.

Day 2: Consume all veggies either cooked or raw.

Day 3: Consume all fruits and veggies except for bananas and potatoes.

Day 4: Consume at most 3 glasses of milk with 8 bananas, combined with GM’s wonder soup (28 oz water, 6 large onions, 2 green peppers, 1 can tomatoes, 1 cabbage head, 1 bunch celery, 4 envelopes Onion Soup Mix, herbs and flavoring as desired).

Day 5: Consume two 10 oz. portions of lean beef with 6 whole tomatoes. Increase water intake by one quart.

Day 6: Consume unlimited amount of beef and veggies.

Day 7: Consume brown rice, all veggies and fruit juices.

In all these days one has to avoid all alcoholic beverages and only take 10 glasses of water each day. The most important thing is it is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR YOUNGER PEOPLE.

Cabbage Soup/ Sacred Heart diet

It is a slight variation of the GM diet with the addition of cabbage soup. It is a very healthy diet that not only helps you lose weight healthily but also relieves stress, improves skin condition, and boosts immune system. It also removes impurities from the body. It is said to be created by the doctors at the hospital to help heart patients lose a significant amount of weight quickly prior to surgery. The diet plan is something like this:

Day 1: Consume cabbage soup (28 oz water, 1 cabbage head, 6 large green onion, 2-3 green peppers, 1-2 cans tomatoes, 1 package Onion Soup Mix, garlic cloves, 2 vegetable bouillon cubes, herbs and flavoring as desired) and all fruits except for bananas.

Day 2: Consume cabbage soup and all veggies either cooked or raw.

Day 3: Consume cabbage soup and all fruits and veggies except for bananas and potatoes.

Day 4: Consume cabbage soup and skim milk with up to 8 bananas.

Day 5: Consume cabbage soup and 20 oz. portions of lean beef/chicken with 6 whole tomatoes.

Day 6: Consume cabbage soup and unlimited amount of beef/chicken and veggies.

Day 7: Consume cabbage soup, brown rice, all veggies and unsweetened fruit juices.

In all these days avoid all beverages except for 8 glasses of water, cranberry juice and unsweetened tea taken before and after meals. It is also NOT RECOMMENDED FOR YOUNGER PEOPLE.

Atkins diet

This 7-day diet is meant for the lovers of meat and limits your carbs intake by limiting you to consume less than 20 grams of carbs per day. So, breads, cereals, grains, pasta, rice, sugars, fruits and juices are not allowed. Since there’s no carbs in meats and cheese so you can consume variety of them including beef, fish, fowl and eggs. Also vegetables like lettuce, cucumber, endive, parsley, fennel, peppers, celery, chives, mushrooms and olives are allowed only. Other vegetables that are richer in carbs can be taken no more than a cup in quantity. The best thing about Atkins is that it makes you feel full all day.

Remember to drink a glass of water before and after each meal to wash out the extra uric acid.

Weetabix/Special K Cereal diet

This diet is extremely high in fiber and so very good for the digestive system that makes you lose 5-10 lb. of weight in just a week. In this diet one has to take a bowl of either the Special K Cereal or 2 bars of Weetabix with a cup of milk for both breakfast and dinner for 7 days. At lunch you can eat anything that you normally take. Special K Cereal/Weetabix diet boosts the digestive functioning of the system and brings out a healthy you.

So, if you’re planning to quickly lose some weight for some occasion this year, choose one for your needs. Happy dieting!

I have done the first diet (well day 6 now) but slighty differently, I have consumed the soup as the main part of the diet, and it has done exactly what is says it will - I had dropped 4 kilos by mid day day 5, not weighed yet today and probably wont until tomorrow night, and I have also planned to change my food intake after the diet has come to an end with the soup being consumed still. I recommend this diet for fast weight loss for sure!

Great hub with tips on losing diet. i have always been a fan of dieting so I have maintained a slim body up to my age. So when it comes to dieting I love choosing my food. I particularly love fruits and vegetables and rarely eat meat. I don't eat pork though. I love fish too and sea foods but now that I am almost fifty, I have avoided all sea shells, crabs and shrimp.
