"When you're smiling the whole world smiles with you...." What better incentive to smile? How about this one, " If you're reading this...Congratulations, you're alive. If that's not something to smile about, then I don't know what is.” ― Chad Sugg, Monsters Under Your Head. I hope that made you smile.

Admit it, doesn't everybody look better when they smile? Really, have you seen a homely baby that smiles all the time and just looks beautiful? (Sorry homely baby.) Or that guy down the street that's always smiling it makes you want to get to know him?

Its easy to smile, honest. It doesn't take a lot of hard work, your face can fall into a smile with very little effort. Of course there is a difference between the 'fake' smile and the 'genuine' smile. The fake smile is used in polite situations or with strangers while the genuine smile is used when we are genuinely happy.

Different Kinds of Smiles

Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”

So we've mentioned fake smile and genuine smile, what other kinds of smile are there? Well, what about the smile you show when you're in love? We could call it a contented smile. What about the "know it all" smile? When you know something no one else knows and it makes you feel good.

How about when you've accomplished something you've wanted to do for a long time? Would you call that the satisfaction smile? What about that 'sexy' smile or that come hither smile?

I bet you could add to this list with just a moment's thought. When you're being shy or coy you smile...some people smile when they are guilty.

There are tons of different kinds of smiles.

How to Remember to Smile More Often

Can you forget to smile? Probably not when you're really happy but, what about other times? When you're walking down the street and pass a stranger, do you smile?

So, how do you remember to smile more often? First and foremost, think happy thoughts. No, I know you're not Pollyanna, but, it never hurts to smile. You know someone with a smile on their face seems warm and friendly so why not smile.

Think about the good things in your life, your spouse, your children, aren't they worth smiling about? Smiling can make you feel better too. Thinking about all the benefits of smiling might help you to remember to smile. Smiling sends a message to your brain that you are happy, even if you're not.

"...despite our inherited level of happiness, and despite the complexities of our lives, a whopping 40% is due to our behavior, over which we do have control."(1) So, what that means is you can make yourself happy by smiling. That's one good reason to remember to smile.

Stop and appreciate what's around you. When you see a beautiful flower or plant, smile. When you see a group of children playing, smile. How about that poor soul who just stepped in a puddle and got soaking wet...a little smile might help make them feel better.

Little tricks in your brain can help you remember to smile. The more you smile, the more others around you will smile. One day, make it a practice to smile at everyone you do business with; a cashier, a parking lot attendant, a grocery store clerk, the mailman, anyone. Another day, keep a tune in your head and smile as you go to and from work. Smile every time you say thank you. Practicing smiling will help you to remember to smile.

Everyone deserves a smile. How nice it is to see a smile on someone's face. Why not make someone else happy by putting a smile on your face?

The more often you smile, the more often you will remember to smile. Keep smiling!

      Reading this lovely hub brought a big smile to my face this morning! What a great way to start the day . . . with a smile . . . as well as ending the day! I noticed that sometimes when you run into someone who is not smiling . . . and you just simply smile at them, then appears a nice smile on their face too. I really love your great photos there at the end, especially the one of you in the hot tub, with the serene smile on your face! Perfect.

      A favorite song of mine....Smile, when your heart is, even when it's breaking.....Another way of saying, "Fake it til you make it."

      I heard if you smile when you answer the phone, it makes people more receptive and pleased to talk to you. I think it's true. I can tell when a grouch is answering the phone and it's not fun. A great new hub for the new year!

      Yep, this Hub made me smile. I do try to smile, but sometimes I think it comes across as being fake. If I can't smile, I do try to look pleasant to other people I come in contact with.

      You sure look good in that hot tub. Bet that thing if nice during cold weather. Even in the hot weather here, I love mine!

      Wonderful smiling hub. It made me smile. The pictures made me smile. You know I really smiled at the dog one and the frog reminded me of the things that hop and crawl around in my yard that I try to rescue from my silly dog, Jenny. Definitely smiled at that.

      Hi Tilly. Do you know, I remember a smile I had from a man 36 years ago, I had gone to France and was crossing a road in Paris when I caught the eye of a man sitting outside a cafe having a drink, I have no idea why this man´s smile should still be in my memory after all this time, but it is, and pops into my head every so often, like now after reading this hub. A smile from someone can make my day and I hope vice versa. Happy new year Tilly to you and yours :)

      ...but no one should have to "remember to smile." A smile is an automatic response to a communication or pleasing event...if you don't smile until convention reminds you, it will be forced and false...

      Mary, xstatic and I are freezin' our buns off here in the Pacific Northwest, and there you are in that hot tub! Ha-ha! Just kidding...I know that your picture was probably taken during a warmer time of the year for you. This was another terrific hub because you put your own branded spin on a universal topic. I was just telling my wife that when I go on my hour-long walks in the morning, I am so tunnel-visioned that I really don't know who it is that honks at me. (I'm embarrassed, you see, and breathing so laboriously that it would take precious energy to smile...give me a few months of diligent daily exercise, and I'll be smiling like a tuna that ate the bait and got away.)       Our little granddaughters would leave their hand prints on our glass doors when they would come for a visit. We left the prints there after they left because they made us smile.

      Our friends would come for a visit and we often got in water fights the kids joining in. It made the kids and us smile.

      We use to let our granddaughters mark up our doors with glass paint because it made them happy and made us smile. It also comes off with a damp cloth. Our son-in-law hated that and wouldn't let them do it in their home. He's no longer our son-in-law, that makes us SMILE!
