How to Stop Eating Like a Pig!
Obesity in America and around the world is at epidemic proportions. What is going on? Can it be that all of a sudden, within the last generation or so the entire world has become gluttonous? Have we all just become undisciplined fat cows? I have struggled all my life with food but since turning 50 it has become practically impossible to lose weight ...until now! I think I've finally found the ANSWER! I sat down one day and decided to just do 3 main things... Follow along for a quick and simple return to sanity and a healthy lifestyle.
All one ever seems to hear on the 6:00 news is how obese we Americans are and yes it's true we are obese. But why are we obese? The general line of thought goes along this path: Americans are overweight because Americans are fat slobs who are undisciplined and just plain lazy. Well, have I got news for you. Americans are overweight because we have been told a steady stream of lies for a very long long time. Furthermore, the people who are feeding us these lies have a vested interest in keeping us fat. The lies come from corporations and big pharma that benefit from keeping you overweight. Corporations like Weight Watcher, Nutrisystem, the Atkins Diet, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, the Sugar lobby and the pharmaceutical companies to name but a few. These corporations make a lot of money from your ignorance.
IT'S THE SUGAR!!!!
The reason you can't stop eating is because you are most likely addicted to refined sugar. You may be like me and think that you are not addicted to refined sugar even though you are. If you can have a small dish of ice-cream and then forget about the ice-cream for the rest of the night you are probably not addicted to sugar. If you can walk in on a freshly made batch of chocolate chip cookies and while not being hungry you pass them by, you are NOT addicted to sugar. If you can just say no to a chocolate candy passed to you by a co-worker, you probably are NOT addicted to sugar. If you choose a piece of fresh fruit over a piece of pie, then you are probably NOT addicted to sugar. However, if you not only eat the freshly made chocolate chip cookie (even though you are not hungry) but may just devour the entire plate..good chance sugar addiction is the monkey on your back. If you raid your children's Halloween bag, at night when they are asleep..you are probably addicted to sugar. If you hide your ____ fill in the blank with candy, cakes, cookies, or ice-cream so that others don't know how much you are eating...you are probably addicted to sugar. Even if you have tried to go on a diet and have substituted "low-fat" foods for "fattening" foods the only thing you are doing is upping your sugar intake which turns into fat. That is why low fat diets fail..the sugar content in low-fat processed foods is astronomical!
It's funny because when we think of addiction we normally don't think of being addicted to sugar. When most of us think of addiction the first thing that comes to mind is some drugged out junkie in some dark alley or possibly a slobbering drunk in a stinky bar somewhere. But, we're normal folk, we are mothers and fathers and co-workers and tax-payers and PTA members, we aren't addicts...are we?
I believe that sugar addiction is the one secret (even secret to the person who has it) addiction that is absolution ruining our lives. They say that for an alcoholic one drink is too many and a thousand too few, but when you think about it, it's the same for someone addicted to sugar. They can't have even one bite of a sugary food without wanting more more more. Personally, I have suffered with this my whole life. I never had a problem with alcohol, I could have one glass of wine and the bottle could sit in my kitchen until it went bad...but give me a piece of chocolate cake and I would be plagued with the thought of eating that cake till it was all gone. That, my dear, is the sign of addict! Normal people don't experience this...I know because I've become a normal person recently.
The results of sugar addiction are devastating. Not only does one have to deal with the usual suspects like diabetes, obesity and a myriad of other physical ailments but depression and anxiety are also the results of sugar addiction. I don't know what it is in the sugar but sugar makes you crazy. I think most mothers of young children who have had too much sugar will testify to that. The effects of sugar addiction can ruin your whole life and the sad part is that most people don't even know that they are addicted. Most people just think they need to lose weight. The Bible says that my people perish through lack of knowledge and boy does that saying fit here.
It has gotten to the point that we don't know which way is up any longer. One documentary will tell you to stop eating butter and another will tell you to go ahead and have butter. The six o'clock propaganda machine known as the six o'clock news will tell you to go on a low fat diet and the next month they will say just the opposite. The result of all this mismush (I know it's not a real word but it fits somehow) is to cause people to throw up their hands, give up and eat whatever they want, not knowing what is good and what is bad. I know that this has been my reaction.
After much trial and error, after trying every single diet on the planet and then some I believe I have found the answer. The problem with America and really the whole world can be summed up in one sentence. We are overwhelmingly addicted to refined sugar and processed foods.
All their frankenfood (yes another made up word but you should be catching on by now) chemicals, preservatives, GMO and nutritionally depleted ingredients are killing us!
So, now that I've convinced you that you are addicted to sugar what should you do? It's not rocket science, it doesn't cost you a fortune, there are no meetings to go to, it's very simple.
Here is what you need to do to lose weight, feel great and become a “normal” person again.
Quit eating ALL refined sugar
Quit eating All refined flour because it becomes sugar
Quit eating All (or as much as possible) processed foods that have anything in them that you can't grow or make from home.
The reason why you should cut out all processed foods is because sugar is in almost everything. It's in peanut butter, mayonnaise, pickles, soy sauce, bread crumbs, bread, ketchup, bacon...you name it it's in it! Look at the labels! Not only that but things that are much worse than sugar are in these processed/packaged foods...chemicals, preservatives, ingredients that are made in some science lab somewhere combining human and pig DNA and who knows what they do to you! These ingredients aren't food, they are put in there so that the product can sit on the shelf for half a year and still be sold...or sent to Europe or China or South Africa and not rot. They aren't good for you and we need to stop eating them.
Instead of eating cookies, cake, candy and ice-cream start to to eat fresh fruit and maybe a little cheese for dessert (like the french do) or substitute honey, pure maple syrup or sugar free made from fruit alone fruit jelly's in your desserts. You will find that you will not over-indulge on these foods. And you will start to enjoy them. Your cravings for sugar will vanish into thin air and you will start to have cravings for oranges and apples and cherries. However, the HUGE difference is that you wont want to eat 5 apples or a gallon of cherries, your body will recognize it for the food that it is and tell your brain that you are full (unlike sugar). I also think it's important to keep a food diary to keep track of what you are eating and how many calories you are eating in the beginning. I mainly do this for my own information. I wanted to see how many calories I was eating. I found out that I naturally ate around 1500 calories a day without feeling deprived or hungry!
Finally, after you've stopped eating the crap you will notice (within a week or two) that everything starts to taste better, that you don't even want to eat the crap anymore and that you look and feel better, which includes dropping the weight effortlessly. You become like a normal person again, it's an epiphany and truly amazing. Just you wait, you will feel fabulous in no time at all!
