How to find happiness in the day to day. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Depression and a by-product of an act.

Updated on October 6, 2013

A rose is beautiful, but what are the by-products of such a plant?

Did you know that I get just as much happiness from tending to my roses as from the rose itself.

Method of Happiness with a Satisfaction Guaranteed logo.

Happiness can be obtained no matter what. Depression can be treated by finding happiness. Not cured but treated. Happiness is a way not a conclusion. Satisfaction Guaranteed, is not hyperbole but a promise made here. You do not need to read this whole article unless it would make you happy to do so.You can go now to the last paragraph and get the product. I am not promoting a product, I am promoting a by-product.

Sometimes we must do things to get the result intended by doing the thing we do. Feed a child and the result is a well fed child, nourished and healthy. We all get that. But what is the by-product? And i am not referring to stinky diapers ;-) Help a crippled stranger with a task and the task is accomplished. But what is the by-product? And I am not talking about a salesman who just made a sale to the stranger.

Once upon a time I had a friend

I know that is hard to believe but true. He was fat and flabby and lazy. A doc told him he would die early if he stayed that way. So he bought some dietary supplements guaranteed to make him healthy and lose weight if he took them according to instructions. Well they worked. He began to lose weight and starting showing some muscle and healthy skin and vibrancy. I was intrigued and asked to see the supplements. And low and behold they had a satisfaction guarantee. So I read the ingredients and they were basically inert. I scratched my head. And then I read the instructions for use.

Take two tablets every morning after a brisk 30 minute walk. My friend was now an enrolled salesman for the product and had satisfied customers. Well that was good enough for me. I went ahead and bought some and have been walking 30 minutes a day ever since with a smile on my face. (hey I never said my friend was smart or for that matter me)

What would it take for you to walk 30 minutes a day.

Do you do some healthy things just because you are following directions?

Admit it, sometimes it is not the cookie that makes you happy, but the fact someone gave it to you.

Main street anywhere for a walk

Just some interesting secular quotes from a Preacher

β€œAs for me, well, I have to repeat and repeat these words as a mantra in order to acknowledge where the true Power lies: "For the vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint."”

β€œThe internal slowing down that reconciliation requires insists on the reflection of that mantra.”

Lanie LeBlanc OP

When you have done all you have been commanded,
say, 'We are unprofitable servants;
we have done what we were obliged to do.'"

Now you are ready for the Satisfaction guaranteed that was promised.

Do your daily chores and work and then do this:

Do more for others. When you are tired and have done for yourself and another what is required of you. Do more. Whether in your own home or in your community. Or across the world or even just for that other anywhere. Just do it!

Wouldn't it be fun if I gave you a bunch of exercises and prayers to say and mantras to recite and things to think and food to eat and then told you to do this in conjunction with some volunteer work. I would be laughing at all the extras and know that it was just the volunteering to help that makes you happier.

One time I volunteered to work with this advocacy group for children. I went to the classes, passed the screening and background that I paid for. Attended some meetings and was rejected. I finagled a meeting with the director on subterfuge to find out why I was rejected. Turns out I was not rich enough. You see all the volunteer stuff was just a ruse to get donations for the program. Slick marketing huh. But it works and children are helped and people employed to run it. So who am I to complain. The by-product of the scam is good.

Very fun music for me. I just like the thought. And I did dance with Michael once.

About the treatment of depression and the satisfaction guarantee

I am no genius or psychiatrist. But I know a good by-product when I see one. Getting up and getting out are really critical in the management of depression. Just doing something is really important. This will help any depressive. Then I throw in the volunteering to help others as the motivator. Others get helped is one by-product. Getting up and about is another.

And there is that happiness that one gets from going beyond our duties and requirements. It is a locked down 110% guarantee.

You see you could have just skipped to the bottom and gotten the answer. So I thank you for reading if you did. You just did the little extra to make me happy and I hope it worked for you.

I will be back to yours today with biscuits. I was interrupted by my accounting staff to write Monday morning checks -- ie my wife and bills to pay. But I did share your silver lining clouds with my boy and he loved them. Thank you

Sparklea I think I should get back into morning walks. I love my hiking in the afternoon. But morning just starts the day right. I assume me being happy makes God happy. It is the least I can do ;-) Thanks much for coming by and saying hi!

Voted up, useful and awesome...and yes, I DID read all the way to the bottom! You hit the nail on the head: Getting up and getting out is so vital to mental health. I am out the door every morning by 6:30 a.m. for a 30-45 minute walk. Me and God, or should I say the Spirit of me? The KINGDOM of God is within us. Right there is a great start...just having that knowledge and assurance that God is in control of every second of our lives. Doing more for others is better than taking a pill any day. It's a win-win for the giver and the receiver.

Thank you for this wonderful, uplifting hub.

God bless you real good. Love the photos. Sparklea :)

Voted up and across. I like your straightforward approach, and the simplicity. I also thought your little 2 question quiz was funny. I answered yes and yes :)

      Have a great night!

What a treat to come by it naturally as you seem to fivesenses. A youth group I taught today, were nodding their heads in agreement on this, which gives me much hope for our future.

What a beautiful and awesome hub here. Thank you for sharing this simple but effective truth here. Love your photos! I am reminded of Psalm 126:6, "Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them." Something wonderful happens when we help others and take our eyes off of ourselves, a true blessing that reaps happiness. Love to tend to flowers too, something that just simply brings happiness.

      Up and more and sharing

Hugs and love to you and yours,

Thanks cam8510, isn't that the truth, the best things we learn are just reminders of what we know already. It is a good day when visited by good friends here.

This formula has worked for me. The more self absorbed I am, the more discontent I am. The more I give., the happier I am. Thanks for the reminder Eric.
