How to Have a Successful Day
Have you ever just had a day where you feel that you want to accomplish many things and you have a whole plan set out about what you are going to accomplish that day, but when you get to the end of the day, you realise that you have basically achieved nothing. It gives you this feeling of an unachieved goal, and it makes the rest of your day feel empty. But if you follow this guide and integrate it to your daily life, then you may have great success in the near future with just a simple adjustment of your everyday routine.
Get a good night's sleep
Adults should sleep 7-8 hours a night. Children and teenagers need closer to 9-11 hours of sleep. Getting more or less sleep than what you need, can cause you to wake up feeling sleepy. Your sleep should be consistent: avoid waking up at night if possible. You might need to get a little extra sleep if you have been sleep deprived, but try to generally keep the same bedtime and waking up time.
Waking up in the morning
Avoid setting an alarm clock to wake up if possible, It can lessen your quality of sleep. Alarm clocks raise stress and make you wake up stressed, not fresh. If you don’t need to wake up at a certain time in the morning such as a week off from work, then wake up naturally without an alarm. Try to stand up quickly when you wake up, otherwise you might feel more drained and you will start your day off on the wrong foot. Get some sun on your face, sunlight lets your body know it’s time to wake up so as soon as you wake up, open your curtains.
Increase your sense of wakefulness
Do some light exercises such as push ups or sit ups to kickstart your circulation and make you feel more awake. Drink lots of water during the day and especially in the morning as this is when you have the most energy. Take a shower, put on clean clothing that you really enjoy. Some studies suggest that waking up to bright colors or fresh flowers can boost your mood and energy. Hang a gorgeous painting or cloth on your walls, put out flowers.
Have a healthy breakfast
Make your cereal or oatmeal more nutritious by cutting a variety of different berries in half or slices, for example blueberries and strawberries, slice a banana, or sprinkle some raisins on top. Pour skimmed or low fat milk instead of 2% or chocolate milk. Try to eat whole grain rather than sugar cereals. Have some fresh fruit with your breakfast. Papaya, mango, cantaloupe (rock melon), and oranges are popular fruits to eat at breakfast time.
Going to work
If you are going to work then you should dress for success. When you leave the house good and ready for work, then you are well on your way to having a successful day. If you work in a casual environment or in a place with a uniform, then you don’t need to add too many personal touches to your look, but you should shower, wash your face and hair, and look generally well groomed. Not only will looking nice make other people treat you with more respect, but it may leave you feeling more excited about being at work.
Leave personal problems at home. Though it can be hard to feel happy at work when you’re too busy worrying about the fight with your boyfriend, your mother’s health, or scrambling to do some last-minute planning for your wedding, learning to push your personal problems aside is the only way you can feel happy in the workplace. Tell yourself that whatever problems you’re having will have to wait until work is over, unless they are really important, and go about your work day.
Have positive thoughts throughout the day
Choose to think more positively will not only help you take control of your life and make your everyday experiences more pleasant, but it can also benefit your mental and physical health as well as your ability to deal with change. Being aware of these benefits can help your be even more motivated to think positively on a regular basis. Here are some benefits of positive thinking:
- An increased life span
- Lower rates of depression and distress
- Greater resistance to the common cold
- Better mental and physical well-being
- Better coping skills during times of stress
- A more natural ability to form relationships and cement bonds
In your free time
After a hopefully positive and productive day at work, you get home and you might feel tired or exhausted even. Use meditation to calm down and relieve stress. Meditation is an excellent way to relieve stress and fatigue.
- Find a quiet, calm place free from distractions. Turn off your television and silence your cellphone.
- Get into a comfortable position. You can sit on a cushion or the floor with your legs folded, sit upright in a chair, or even lie down.
- Take slow, deep breaths down into your diaphragm (below your ribcage). Aim for an even, steady breathing pace.
- Focus your attention on your breathing. Notice the sensations of breath: the way air feels as it passes through your nostrils, the feeling of your belly rising and falling, and so on.
- Any time your mind gets distracted and you start thinking outside thoughts, simply return your focus on your breathing.
- You can sit in meditation for as brief or as long a period of time as you would like. The important thing is to set aside some uninterrupted time to practice breathing and meditating.
When you feel more relaxed and calm at the end of the day, you want to think about the future and think about what you are doing today to better your tomorrow. Think about what you plan on doing to achieve your goal, whether it is to have a successful career or to start a new business, or even If you have a fitness goal which you want to achieve. Then write down any new ideas and ways you can approach your goal, and use these ideas to set up a plan for your future. Remember, preparation is key. A person tends to have most of ideas at night or when they feel calm and relaxed, so keep a notebook on the side table in case you are lying in your bed and you think of a new idea, so that you can write it down and integrate it to your plan for success.
Ending your day
End your day by drinking a glass of water to keep you hydrated and feeling good, but don’t drink too much water before bed otherwise it might interrupt your sleep by you going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Go to bed early in order to have a full day of success when you wake up in the morning. Keep your room at a cool temperature, so that when you wake up you feel refreshed instead of waking up feeling sweaty because your room temperature was too hot. And lastly listen to calming music for a few minutes before you officially shut down to sleep, this will put you in a sleepy relaxed mood and it will make you fall asleep much quicker.
