How to have a great day? Work towards it!
My daughter was selecting the dress for the birthday bash of her friend’s son and I was watching my favorite TV show. Suddenly she rushed out of her room with a worried look. She told me that one of her colleague had met with an accident and he was hospitalized. I could not believe myself as I had seen him only the day before. How uncertain life was!
‘I think we should live for the day, amma. Too many qualms about the past and too many worries about the future mean nothing, amma. We never know what is going to happen in our life’, my daughter told me after visiting her colleague in the hospital. I think she had a valid point there.
You always feel unhappy about your depressive past and make your present life torturous. Or you worry too much about the future and lose the perspective of making today a good day for you.
Your past has gone by. Your future is too far ahead. It is your present that matters. And today is the present you should focus on. If you are a person who feels ashamed of your past life and fear your future life you lose insight about today which you should focus on.

Your past should never hurt you. It is no longer there. When you have sad memories of your past, you miss the beautiful things ‘today’ has to offer you. Your bitter past is a lesson which guides you to live your present life more fruitfully.
You should consider your past failures and mistakes as reference books! They are precious lessons which stop you from repeating your faults again and again. Your future is a suspense thriller and you do not know what is going to happen. But today is like virtual money you have in hand and you can spend it as you like.
- Feel happy that you have no physical impairment.
- Feel blessed that you have a discerning mind.
- Thank god that you can ambulate on your own.
- Spend quality time with your family.
- Be proactive and productive.
This is how you should see today. Always start the day on a positive note.
Do not wallow in sorrow that you do not have the affluence others have. Do not degrade yourself and think that you are a lesser person.
How to make today your greatest day?
1. Watch the glory of sunrise!
Have you ever watched the glory of sunrise? It is a magnificent sight which makes you wonder about the splendor of god’s creation. When you get up early you have extra precious time to start for work on time without being tensed about traffic jam and commuting problems.
2. Start the day with a smile
Do not be glum faced thinking about your hectic work schedule and yell at your family. It increases your stress even more and your day does not begin well. On the other hand, if you smile at your spouse, interact with friendliness with your family you feel energized to start your day with confidence.
3. Prayers make you calm
God gives you the solace you need. When you pray and surrender to god, he takes the burden off your shoulders and makes you work with assurance and focus.
4. Plan the day.
You should plan your work. Take a paper and pencil and write down what should be done for the day. You can refer it to make your work less confusing and more productive.
5. Greet your colleagues
You should have good companionship with all your colleagues. You spend long hours in your work place and if you have non-compatibility with them you feel tensed all day through.
6. Do your work with dedication
You should be dedicated to your work. You should improvise your knowledge about your profession. Do not indulge in small talk during work hours. You should work at a steady pace so that you finish your work without any backlog. When you have a good day at your work place, you spend your time at home in a relaxed mood.
7. be helpful
Do you see a small child struggling to cross the road? Hold the hands of the child and help him cross it. Do you see some handicapped person in difficulty? Help him through and watch his gratitude with a warm feeling that you are a good person.
8. Buy something for the family.
Do not go empty handed when you start for home. Your children always like it when you get them their favorite eatables. A surprise gift now and then also makes them happy.
9. Spend quality time with your family
Do not sit before the laptop or TV and spend silent moments at home. You should share the day's happenings with your family. You should eagerly ask them what they did for the day. Wonderful time with your family soothes away whatever stress you might feel.
10. Thank god for a wonderful day
Just as you begin the day with prayers, you should end the day thanking god for gifting you with a wonderful today. Wipe out all the worries from your mind and relax back in your bed for a good night’s sleep. It will energize you to face yet another wonderful day god had created for you.

When you fret and fume and make a mess of today, one precious day is lost. It adds up to make it a 'messy present' of your life. Problems of today should be handled with will power. It leads you to tomorrow’s victory. Life is very short and do not waste it by living in past and dreading your future. Always feel that today is going to be a great day for you!
