On ways in which people are equal

I believe that people are equal in a number of ways. One of which is mortality. We, humans will die eventually regardless of who we are. Another is that, everybody has equal opportunity of experiencing pains and joys in life as we go along living. Each and everyone of us has his or her own share of heartaches and pains; joys and victories. Thus, as humans, we are equally vulnerable. We are also equal in terms of our basic needs for survival like food, clothing and shelter.

On the basis of showing respect

Personally, I respect people regardless of who and what they are; so long as they are not doing anything that threatens my sense of well-being and my rights as a person. I just have to give the kind of respect that is due to others as to my own.

On viewing others as more developed

Yes, I do believe that some people are more developed as humans than others. Say for instance, in terms of maturity, educational advancement, experience, spiritual foundation and a lot more. This can simply be explained through knowing our individual differences.

On accepting differences among people

People differ and that should be accepted. Individual differences has long been studied thousands of years ago tracing its roots from the studies of Plato, Charles Darwin and many others. Several factors are to be considered like heredity, traits, culture, learning, personal choice, unconscious mechanisms, cognitive processes and upbringing.

Which of the following factors influence most in shaping your life?

On freedom to shape own life

I believe that I don't have much freedom in shaping my life due to a number of considerations. I only have just enough but not that much. Among these considerations are in the aspects of resources, responsibilities in the family, personal limitations, situational and time constraints.

Factors like heredity, family history, early childhood experiences and environment have its own contributions in shaping my life. Of course, in various degrees or intensity, depending on the situation.

The aspects in the environment that continually take control of my behavior are my religion (faith in God), my work, my relationship with my family, my relationship with colleagues/friends, and the expectations of other people. In a nutshell, the roles that I play in the society.

See how one's attitude in life matters...

On aspect in life having control

The aspect in which, I definitely have the control is in terms of my attitude. I do not have any control with what other people may say or do. I do not have any control with what life may throw along my way. However, I am convinced that I am in full control with the kind of attitude that I would choose in my dealings with other people and in facing the circumstances happening in my life.

So, as I move along with this lifetime, I may have changes in perspectives. Nevertheless, I just do hope and pray that in this process of becoming; I can fully embrace what it takes to be truly human.

This is a very interesting and useful hub which I enjoyed reading. Unlike you, I firmly believe that it is possible for an individual to shape his life. Sacrifices of course have to be made, but what is the alternative, spending your life tied down in unhappiness?
