Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy -- H2O2 Therapy

Updated on June 27, 2013

Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy -- Oxygen Therapy

Hydrogen peroxide therapy, also known as oxygen therapy, is a simple process of either ingesting or injecting hydrogen peroxide into the body, which in turn releases free radicals of oxygen into the system that the body uses to fight off many harmful and deadly diseases. Here's a little background in hydrogen peroxide. The chemical makeup of hydrogen peroxide is H2O2. It's very similar to water, though technically an acid. When hydrogen peroxide reacts with things, the extra oxygen atom is released and hydrogen peroxide turns into water.

Even though hydrogen peroxide was only discovered in the early 1800's, it occurs naturally in nature. Oxygen from the ozone and the upper atmosphere sometimes combine with water molecules and then fall to the earth during storms, releasing it into the environment. Many studies have shown that hydrogen peroxide is very helpful to plants. Not only is it antifungal, but it acts as an oxygen supplement to plants, and oxygenates the soil. Many gardeners spray it on the leaves of their plants and add it into the water that they use for watering. But that's the subject of another article. Let's get back to hydrogen peroxide therapy.

A hydrogen peroxide molecule, what makes hydrogen peroxide therapy and oxygen therapy possible.
A hydrogen peroxide molecule, what makes hydrogen peroxide therapy and oxygen therapy possible.

How Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy Works

There are two methods of hydrogen peroxide therapy. One is to simply drink food grade hydrogen peroxide diluted in water. Food grade hydrogen peroxide is 35% strength and very powerful, as compared to your local grocery store variety which is only 3%, so don't ever drink it without diluting it. The other method is intravenously, injecting it straight into the body. The reason why this is done is because many harmful diseases and conditions, such as cancer and aids, are anaerobic, meaning that they can't handle an oxygen rich environment. Studies have shown that when hydrogen peroxide is injected in large enough quantities around a cancerous area, the cancer cells die. When introduced into the blood stream, hydrogen peroxide therapy seems to have great results against almost every ailment. It was first used in the bloodstream in the early 1900s to fight against influenza. Studies have shown that intravenous hydrogen peroxide therapy is effective against advanced stages of cancer, where other methods are no longer usable.

The benefits of drinking food grade hydrogen peroxide is that it is effective against removing toxins from the system. Adding a few drops to a glass of pure water an hour before a meal will allow the stomach to process the hydrogen peroxide and utilize it in the body. Studies have shown that many people do not get enough oxygen in their breathing, and a correlation has been drawn between people who have shallow breathing and cancer formation. Drinking food grade hydrogen helps to curb this condition.

Some Fears with Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy

A number of fears have been raised with hydrogen peroxide therapy. When hydrogen peroxide is released into the body, it breaks down into an oxygen atom, and a water molecule. The oxygen atom that is released is a charged free radical. Because of that, many people are wary, since free radicals in the body are known to cause cancer and things like premature aging. However, research has shown that the body actually uses these free radicals to fight against bacteria and disease, and actually produces its own hydrogen peroxide readily when it needs it. So while these fears are understandable, they are mostly unsubstantiated. The case can definitely be made that one should never overuse hydrogen peroxide, either orally or intravenously, but that is the case for almost anything. Too much of a good thing is almost always bad. Do not ever attempt to give yourself intravenous hydrogen peroxide therapy. Always seek the help of a qualified medical practitioner.  If you want to learn more about the medical and health benefits of hydrogen peroxide therapy, I really recommend the book listed below.

Hydrogen Peroxide Tips From a Fellow Hubber

Never use H2O2 at more than 8% solution, if anyone were to drink 35% H2O2 neat, they would die in agony.

I tested it up to 12%, at which time I felt my oesophagus start to burn, and needed to drink 1 litre of Aloe Vera juice to restore balance, I never prescribe anything that I have not tested, so believe me when I say 8% is the absolute maximum to BUILD UP TO.

Start with 1%,then build to 2% etc. until you find it unpalatable.

H2O2 will help, but the antioxidant factor is to be considered, and for me, at the end of my study, I decided to use Cellfood, which is nacient oxygen with 78 vitaminerals added and amino acids. Google Cellfood and you will see that it is much more stable and safe to use.

Natural health is the way to go, but we need to exercise caution, for it can harm you, and (for instance) H2O2 would not be the correct treatment for ALL cancers.

H2O2 is also great to 'blast' colloidal silver with, and one drop in 20 litres will literally smash the silver particles into even smaller particle size.

H2O2 is also a great mouthwash, and will deal with ulcers etc. quickly.

Feel free to add these points to your hub, and please do once you have considered and researched them.

You MUST warn folks NOT to drink 35% H2O2.... it will kill them, and for that reason I will flag this hub until you have amended it with a safety warning, I like that you have written the hub, but you must add this vital safety warning.

Thanks for the great info. I'll add it into the hub. And thanks for that warning. I guess I didn't expressly mention not to drink it directly. I directed people to put a few drops in a glass of water, but didn't warn not ever to drink it straight.

Thanks for not taking offence, I just know how dumb some folk are, and you can imagine the negative effect someone dying would bring!

Good morning. I read this with great interest because the use of a few drops of farm grade @ 33% in a glass of water helps to get rip of sinus and throat infections. It worked for me. At this percentage, you can't even touch the liquid with your finger, it will burn you.

Can you give any tips as to where to get the 33-35% peroxide?

      Great info!

Very cool. I didn't know that it cleared up sinus and throat infections. You can sometimes find food grade hydrogen peroxide at health food and whole food stores. You can find it online too if you can't find it locally. It's sometimes difficult to find 35% though. A lot of places sell 6, 8, and 10 percent, so you may just have to go with that.

I want to share an anecdote with you and your readers which has nothing to do with ingesting hydrogen peroxide, but rather with its curative powers as a topical.

My diabetic grandmother treated her ulcerated toes with H2O2 daily. I was young at the time, so I don't know the details of her self-treatment, but the story in the family is that her doctor, upon examining her feet some time after her self-medication, was amazed at the healing. He asked her, "Manya, what did you treat this with...horse manure?" Apparently, she knew something he didn't.

I never heard of ingesting or introducing hydrogen peroxide intravenously. Thanks for this extremely informative Hub.

Thanks for that anecdote. That's awesome. Yeah, I think hydrogen peroxide therapy is one of the most interesting forms of therapy that I've studied so far. I would never have thought that injecting H2O2 intravenously would be a good idea.

WARNING - You say "A lot of places sell 6, 8, and 10 percent, so you may just have to go with that."

If you are taking it internally it can NEVER be 6, 8, 10 per cent - it's full of additives that will kill you. It absolutely HAS TO BE 35% FOOD GRADE H2O2 and this MUST BE diluted to 3%

      Hope this helps...

Thank you, I didn't know that. It was recommended to me by a book. I'll change it. I've always only used 3 or 35%, but I was told that you could use anything in between as well.

I am recovering from a freak infection between my spleen and my diaphragm. Come to find out, it is MSSA, NOT mrsa, but MSSA. I am home on IV antiobiotics and will follow up with oral ones afterwards. My mother is a firm believer of the H2O2 therapy. She has some book called the One Minute Miracle, i think. Is this one that you have read? I am going to start reading it while on the IV and see if it might benefit this occurrence.

Krisser, I'm sorry to hear that that happened to you. The book you referred to isn't one that I have read, but it sounds like good reading material while you're resting and recovering. I think hydrogen peroxide therapy gets a lot less recognition than it deserves. I hope you get better quickly!

Benjimester, Hydrogen peroxide is a reactive oxygen species that acts like a free radical. It is toxic at a certain level. That is why it is sold at 3% at the counter. Higher than that it burns human flesh. Even at 3% it burns human blood. If blood is applied with 3% H2O2 the blood bubbles then disappears, which is actually burning. I have tried it, with the purpose of stopping bleeding of a wound. H2O2 acts like chlorine or flouride poisoning. Inside the cell, molecular oxygen O2 goes into the metabolism of glucose and produces superoxide as by-product. Superoxide is a master free radical that is toxic. To detoxify it, the superoxide dismutase (SOD)of the cell converts it to hydrogen peroxide which is also toxic.SOD makes the situation worse? Wait, glutathione peroxidase in the cell dismantles H2O2 into safe water. Without glutathione peroxidase the work of SOD is useless, nay, hazardous. When applied against cancer, H2O2 acts like a chemotherapy drug, say Adriamycin, which produces a lot of free radials that destroy the chromosomes of cancer cells. (I would not recommend applying H2O2 against cancer.) But conventional medicine will not say that about adriamycin because it ignores free radicals as causes of disease. It would just say adriamycin destroys cancer cells and healthy cells that make the patient weak. The purpose of the suppressant is to lessen free radical damage. Sometimes free radicals help in healing. For example, the macrophage, a component of the immune system, shoots microorganisms with nitric oxide, a free radical,to kill them. It shoots the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes, responsible for rheumatic heart, with free radicals destroying the microbe and infected cells including healthy cells in the vicinity. Thus scars are produced that result in rheumatic heart. Dr.Michael DeBakey, MD, a renowned heart surgeon says rheumatic heart is probably an allergic reaction to the bacterium, in the book co-authored with Dr. Antonio Gotto, MD, "The Living Heart" (1977). There are books on free radicals and H2O2: Bypassing Bypass by Elmer Cranton, MD. 1st and 2nd edition; Freedom from Disease by Hari Sharma, MD; The Miracle Healing Power of Chelation Therapy by Dr. Morton Walker. In nutrition research, H2O2, an oxidant,is a test material to verify the antioxidant property of food, like lettuce which can partly neutralize H2O2. That means lettuce has an antioxidant property. Colored rice can also partly neutralize H2O2. Water and H2O2 in a test tube with colored rice showed reduced potency of H2O2 which means that colored rice is an antioxidant. This is one of the results of a masteral thesis done at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, College, Laguna, Philippines.

Wow, well you clearly know much more about H2O2 than I do. I think I understood most of that though. I thought the point of hydrogen peroxide therapy was to create free radicals that attack the cancer. I understand that in regular situations, free radicals are very bad, but in this situation, aren't they helpful?

Free radicals destroy cancer cell and hydrogen peroxide acts like a free radical. I would like to see literature that shows FDA had approved the application of hydrogen peroxide against cancer. At least Adriamycin or Tamoxifen had been approved by FDA.

Benjimester, you have spurred a healthy exchange of ideas on this matter.

If any of you want to take h2o2 here's where to start.Guardian of eden 35% H2O2 can be found with a simple search[google]. Take 1 and 1/2 OZ.with a bottle of Dazani water. The bottles are about 16 OZ.That will make 3 % H2O2.With this put an oz. in about 2/3 rds bottle dazani water. This is what you drink. Before you start doing this you need to stop drinking all acidic drinks citrus, soda, caffeine, black tea and it would be great if you could not eat for 12 to 24 hours before starting this therapy.Theres many things that you can do along with h2O2 to supercharge this therapy.Yes Im going to say it,your diet . Fruits and veggies is a great start ,the closer to raw the better.there is so much I can say about this subject i wont know where to stop. So if you have any questians please reply.Ive done this many times for a variety of ailments. One in peticular very serious. But most were just general things, cold, flu or just feeling the effects of daily life..Im a true believer in H2o2 for an endless list of ailments Pce herb

I bought 2 - 1fl oz bottles of 35% food grade H2O2 . There is nothing on the bottle to indicate any percentage 3% to 50% or no dilution but the directions indicate 3-8 drops in an 8oz glass of spring water. 1fl oz = 590 drops = 1 fl oz. So how in the world does 1 to 1.5 oz into to 16 oz bottle of water not kill me? If I put 3 drops of my 35% food grade H2O2 in an 8oz glass of water what % of dilution do I have?

    • profile image

P.S. I'm at batdawg@live.com if anyone can tell me if the 35% food grade refers to 35% diluted or not and if the advice given above suggests you futher dilute it 1 to 11 to get down to 3% ? thanks in advance -

      JeBe3 5 years ago

Batdawg, I'll try to help. I haven't taken h2o2 orally yet, but I know something about drops to oz and such. 15 drops = 1teas. 1 teas = 5 ml. There are 240 ml in 8 oz of water. So if you put 6 drops of h2o2 into 8 oz water, that would be about 1/3 teas h2o2 in 1 cup water, which would bring the percentage way down. Remember, the h2o2 started out at 35%, then you dilute it 2 ml of it in 240 ml of water. I'll let you do the math, cuz it's frying my brain, lol.

So far I have read that the body produces hydrogen peroxide this way: By metabolism of say, glucose to energy, superoxide is produced. superoxide dismutase adds one proton and one hydrogen atom to superoxide to produce hydrogen peroxide which is a reactive oxygen species that acts like free radical (Sharma, H. Freedom from Disease. 1993). h202 is poisonous in that it grabs electrons from molecules. the body gets rid of h202 by means of glutathione peroxidase that turns h202 into safe water. i have several Hubs on this topic. the question is, why add h202 to your body when your body tries hard to get rid of it? maybe h202 is useful as a gargle but not to be ingested.
