If I Were Rich

Updated on August 12, 2013

A Great Family Life

I grew up in a great family and had a terrific life as a child. Our family was just a middle class family with lots of love and happiness.

My sister and I always had just about everything we wanted in our childhood years, despite not being rich like others we knew and grew up with. We always went on our yearly vacations, most of the time, at the Jersey shore and many Christmas Holiday Florida trips.

My parents didn't need a lot of money to make our family a happy family. They were frugal in the spending and watched and thought about what they bought before buying, not like today when we don't think first before we buy.

We tend to buy on a whim and sometimes being sorry for that hasty buying decision.

I always thought to myself, what would my life be like if I were rich?

Getting Older and Wiser

As I started to get older my thoughts of being rich really excited me. If I could pull it off and land a great job, hit the Lottery, be left a huge amount of money for some kind person and so on, but now thinking about that and just how envious I was of people that were rich, I now know that being rich sometimes doesn't bring happiness.

I didn't grow up rich, but was always told many times that I had rich taste in anything I wanted and wished for throughout my childhood years and into adult hood as well. But now, the more I think about being so rich it really doesn't matter much. Just to be happy and healthy is all the richness I need.

My family was rich in different ways, such as, happiness, contentment, love, kindness and very giving even though there wasn't a lot of money we gave things from our heart. Small things to us, but huge to the people that received.

I learned to grow rich just through pure love, great health and sharing my life with the people I love and adore.

I always looked at all those beautiful Mansions, Huge Yachts, Fancy Cars and just kept dreaming and wishing I could have those one day, and as of today I still wish and dream, but I really don't need those expensive things in my life now.

Sometimes money and being rich can ruin a family even though you make think that statement is ridiculous, it can be true.

If I Were Rich Today

If I by chance became rich today, this it what I would do to make me happier than ever in my life.

  • First off, find a great Financial Adviser.
  • Set myself, my wife and children up with their savings for the future.
  • Go to my Church and give a large sum of money to help them with their repairs, up keep and anything they would need to keep the Church running 100 percent.
  • Give to Cancer Research and Science to help them in finding cures to the diseases of today.
  • Give to Animal Shelters to help in the care of abused and sicken animals.
  • Give to Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers for the care of people suffering with an addiction.

Now, here is what would make me the happiest and what I've talked about my whole life if I have more money than I knew what to do with.

I always spoke about, "if I were rich I would love to find people that are in need of housing, food, medical and just people that are really suffering a financial hardship in their life".

It would bring me so much joy, happiness and contentment if I could help people that are in need of something that they could not afford to get on their own.

Just to bring a smile to that someone in need is worth more than any amount of money to me.  In my eyes that is what having a rich life should be.  To be able to help our fellow Americans and others throughout the world.

I often look at people while driving or walking and can't help but notice so many people that seem as if they have nothing.  You can really see it on their faces that something is horribly wrong.  Seeing this really saddens me and I always had dreams of helping people like them.

I would love to see a person in need on the street and just go up to them, hug them and talk for a bit and then just be able to hand them some money and tell them I hope this will help you.

The people I often see that live on the streets, with no roof over their heads, living in all the elements, eating out of trash cans, no where to bath and wearing torn dirty clothes upsets me so much.  These people are all human beings just like all of us and they desire to be treated as humans and not animals.  To be honest, many animals have better lives than them.

I know that these people sometimes choose this as their way of life, but remember, some people also didn't have that choice and they just became out on the street for many reasons that we will never know the reason why.

Some people may get offended by this gesture of money and help, but I don't think they would mind having a little extra help in their lives if they really needed it.

SUMMARY

So, in closing, these are some of the things I would love to be able to do for people if I happen to strike it rich. In the meantime, I will continue to Love, Stay Happy, Be Content with what I have, Continue to try and help people in my writings on Alcohol Addictions and Most Important for me, to Continue on my road to staying Clean and Sober and to keep my Destiny in life...SOBRIETY.

It's funny how our view of what make us happy changes as we grow older (wiser?). My list would be identical to yours. I find that there is not much that I really need in life, other than the basic necessities, to make my life complete. Family, a home and purpose is prety much what tops the list. I just heard of a young man today that requested prayer. He has made some poor choices that have left him homeless. My heart goes out to people who have reached bottom and look up... may we be there to help them out of their despair. Wonderful hub!

Reading what you said about the quote of mine made my realize I was thinking and writing with negativity and that's not me at all. You are so right, you never know what might happen overnight or in the days ahead, so I must think positive and be happy for what I have in life.

@ Mistress of Spice, I'm with you, I'd rather be able to be rich in love, be happy and live simple, because as I said I'm sure it great to be rich, but I don't think i ever will be and some people that are rich are very unhappy with their lives. Also, money is the root of all evil. I happy just the way things are now.

I'll give to those if I can can and that makes me the happiest. Thanks you for your comment and hope you enjoy your Christmas Holiday ! :-)

Hello Mr clean life or shall i say, Mr.Richy Rich lol, some people are born rich, others attain wealth of inherit overnight from family heirloom.Wealth comes status...I like to rich in heart give to the poor, be simple, live life to the fullest, achieve dreams, hate for money to dictate my lifestyle.Being born with a silver teaspoon does not make that person rich, actually they can turn out to be very unhappy, no freinds, and no meaning to life...

Money is root to all evil.lolz rather be without it...you can stil live your life, happy and appreciated...goodluck.. :-)

@ Rich, Thanks for visiting and even though it's nice to give money you are right just that personal touch or a little friendly chat with someone can make a world of difference in their life. It doesn't always have to be material things and money to help another human being.

As always , God Bless you and your wife!

I was shaking my head up and down in agreement and finished reading your hub feeling good and with a smile. I too have often wondered what I would do if I were rich; I definitely would help loved ones with financial security and help others, but as you point out, love, health, family friends and helping in our unique way is richness itself too, sometimes more than what money can buy,
