Importance of Detox
Our body has the magnificent ability to cleanse, heal and detoxify itself.
At a cellular level, it strives to free us from toxins and foreign elements that enter (or may enter) the body. We see this process through the efforts of our liver, kidney, lungs, intestines up to our very skin.
Each time we sweat, we detoxify; when we urinate, we detoxify; when we remove our bowels, we detoxify. Whether we like it or not, our body detoxifies itself so we can appreciate the very value of life.
Allowing the body to detoxify on its own is very burdensome, especially if we’re not taking care of it in the first place.
Sources of toxins inlcude:
-Poor food choices
-Vices (e.g. alcohol, smoking)
-Stress, worries, tensions
If you are guilty of any one of the sources of toxins above, you may need to help your body detoxify.
How to detoxify the body
There are different ways to detoxify. Some subject themselves to a 7-10 days of detox program.
While this is good; such is not advisable for all. Some of us may have health conditions that will not allow us a juice fast or a liquid diet, even for several days.
In this case, healthy lifestyle change calls to place.
We can help with our body’s internal detox process by:
-Eating a lot of fibrous foods. Add more vegetables and fruits in your plate.
-Drinking a lot of vegetable and fruit juices. Their nutrients and anti-cancer agents will go straight to your system faster.
-Avoiding oily foods. As much as possible, go for steamed, grilled or roasted. If you like to cook stir-fry dishes or any dish that requires oil, use the healthy options (e.g. olive oil, canola oil, bran oil)
-Drinking lots of water. Not coffee, not iced tea but pure water. Although, green tea also helps our body detoxify.
-Exercising regularly. Do some cardio exercises or play sports with your buddies. You’re helping your body detoxify when you perform physical activities. It will help pump the toxins and salts out of your system; you’re also developing strength and stamina in the process.
-Avoiding too much stress, as much as you can. Stress tends to slow down the body’s normal detoxification process. Instead of merely detoxifying, it will also need to focus on stress-coping mechanisms. Stress doesn’t only slow down our detox; it also hastens the aging process of the body.
When our body is functioning as it should, we feel good. That’s how we know our detox agents our doing well.
And how do we know we need to help our body detoxify? It’s when we feel sickly, low on energy and sluggish.
