Improve your health: top 3 smoothie recipes this summer!

Updated on June 25, 2016

Summer’s coming and what better way to stay fit and healthy than to drink smoothies? Easily made, healthy and, most importantly, delicious.

While we had to settle for frozen fruit during the cold winter months, we can now enjoy our juicy strawberries and crispy pears once again.

What makes smoothies so wonderful is that they are immensely nutrituous and don’t contain any malicious chemicals, as found in the majority of ready-made meals nowadays. As such, they can perfectly substitute any meal of the day.

The following quantities of ingredients are adjusted to the needs of two people:

1. Mint and lemon smoothie

  • WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO NEED: 1 CUCUMBER, 1 SPRIG OF MINT, 1 PINCH OF GINGER POWDER, HALF A SPOONFUL OF SALT, 1 SPOONFUL OF WHITE PEPPER, 1 SPRIG OF LEMON BALM, 2 SCOOPS OF LEMON SORBET AND (IF DESIRED) ICE CUBES.

Before cutting the cucumber in two, cut out 4 thin slices to decorate your smoothie. Peel the remainder of the cucumber, remove the seeds and cut it squarely into cubes.

Afterwards, remove the leaves from the sprigs of lemon balm and mint (you should keep some to embellish your smoothie) and mince the remainder of lemon balm and mint. Then mix the cucumber with the minced herbs and sieve the mixture.

Add a pinch of ginger power as well as half a spoonful of salt and a spoonful of white pepper. Subsequently add the lemon sorbet and start mixing. Put some ice cubes in both glasses and pour out the smoothie. To finish, embellish with some slices of cucumber and the remainder of your mint and lemon balm.

2. Kiwi and melon smoothie

  • WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO NEED: 1 KIWI, 150G OF GREEN MELON, 1 SMALL RIPE PEAR, 2 SPOONFULS OF LEMON JUICE, AND 2 SPOONFULS OF CRUSHED ICE, AND SUGAR

Firstly, peel the kiwi and melon and cut both into small pieces. Then peel the pear, cut it in half and remove the core. Proceed by cutting the pear into small pieces.

Afterwards, put the piece of kiwi, melon and pear along with the lemon juice and crushed ice in a blender. After blending, add powdered sugar according to taste and serve immediately.

3. Passion fruit and pineapple smoothie

  • WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO NEED: 2 PASSION FRUITS, 1 KIWI, 2 STALKS OF CELERY, 75ML OF PINEAPPLE JUICE, 2 SPOONFULS OF MAPLE SYRUP, POSSIBLY ADD A FEW ORANGE SLICES AND ICE CUBES FOR DECORATION.

First and foremost, cut both passion fruits in half, scoop out the flesh and put it through a sieve to remove the small grains.

Peel the kiwi and cut it into small pieces. Then wash the stalks of celery and dry them. Cut off the ends of the celery leaves along with approximately 5cm of the stalk and save it for later. Cut up the remaining stalks into small pieces.

Subsequently mash the kiwi and celery with pineapple juice and passion fruit. In order to sweeten the smoothie, add maple syrup according to taste. Pour the smoothie in two glasses filled with ice cubes. Lastly, embellish your smoothie with orange slices to top it off!
