“There's a tremendous amount of progress in understanding bipolar
disorder. It's a bad illness to have, but a good time to have it.”

-Kay Redfield Jamison, Ph.D.

According to the latest bipolar statistics quoted by the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA): "Bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million adult Americans, or about 2.6% of the U.S. population age 18 and older every year." (National Institute of Mental Health).

Individuals diagnosed with this disease have mood swings that alternate from periods of severe highs (mania), or hypomania in Bipolar 2 sufferers, to extreme lows (depression). Suicide is the number one cause of premature death among people with bipolar disorder, with 15 percent to 17 percent taking their own lives as a result of negative symptoms that come from untreated illness.

Skyscraper - by Demi Lovato (Lyrics)

"Skyscraper" by Demi Lovato is a powerful song. Perhaps this is not the true interpretation, but I believe this song captures the struggle with Bipolar Disorder and becoming stronger than the disease. This is why I have posted the video and lyrics here.

"Skyscraper"

[Verse 1:]
Skies are crying, I am watching
Catching tear drops in my hands
Only silence as it's ending
Like we never had a chance
Do you have to make me feel like
There's nothing left of me?

[Chorus:]
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

[Verse 2:]
As the smoke clears, I awaken
And untangle you from me
Would it make you feel better
To watch me while I bleed?
All my windows still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet

[Chorus:]
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

[Bridge:]
Go run, run, run
I'm gonna stay right here,
Watch you disappear
Yeah, oh
Go run, run, run
Yeah, it's a long way down
But I am closer to the clouds up here

[Chorus:]
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Oh Oh
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

(Like a skyscraper)

Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

I really enjoyed reading your hub especially the quotes that you have. They all are true but it does not make it any easier to live like this. I rapid cycle so I never know who I will be when I wake up, so every morning is like x-mas seeing what type of mood I will be in.
