A Case Study: Reiki cured my close relative

About ten Years ago, one of my close relative was sick with a life threatening ailment, and multiple complications, which led to hospitalization as well.

It took her more than two months to recover from the ailment.

The whole period was traumatic for her, and after Reiki treatment, It was a second life for her.

Although, she was declared clinically fit, she did not feel well.

She was always anxious, fearful, restless, tense, and could not sleep.

The doctors said that the problem was now more mental, than physical.

The body had recovered from the illness, but the mind was still fearful.

The fear of what could have happened, made her restless and when she looked at her kids, the fear gripped her even more.

Because, during her illness her family also suffered along with her, especially the small children.

After major and prolonged illness, the fear of what could have happened, grips the patient normall.

Reiki Therapy Worked And She Felt Better, And Better

Then, someone suggested her to undergo Reiki treatmen by a qualified Reiki practitioner, and it worked.

Right after the first session, she started feeling better.

She felt peaceful, and mellow and she had not felt like that, since a long time.

In the subsequent sessions, she was feeling even better.

Now, she was getting peaceful sleep, and she was relaxed and felt positive.

What Reiki Therapy is all about? Is it effective?

’Reiki' denotes 'Universal Life Energy'.

In this therapy, the energy flows from the practitioner's hands, towards the body of the person, who is taking the treatment.

Then, that energy is utilized to heal the skin, organs, and immune system.

This helps the body to get rid of toxins.

Placing the hands upon, or just above the body can help to remove energy blocks, in other words, soothe and calm the person.

This also helps to create a feeling of deep relaxation.

'Reiki' is an alternative therapy, which is now much popular to bring positive changes to mental and physical health.

It has also been found to help in the process of self discovery.

What are Reiki symbols?

Reiki Symbols are the means of focusing the attention, to connect with specific healing frequencies.

Using different symbols boosts up the energy.

At the Master level of Reiki therapy, the practioner has to learn as to, how to use Special Sacred Reiki Symbols and words for the purpose of healing and protection. The Reiki symbols are named as follows:

1. CHO KU RAY or "The Power Symbol"

The main use of this Symbol is to increase Reiki power. It draws Energy from around, and focuses it where it is needed.

This is an all purpose symbol and can be used for anything, anywhere.

For example, for on the spot treatments, to cleanse negative energies, for Spiritual protection, on food, water, medicine, herbs, In sick rooms and hospitals, to seal energies after the treatment and others.

If can also be used to bring energy to self.

2. SEI HEI KI orThe mental-emotional symbol.

The purpose of this symbol is mental and emotional healing and to provide calmness to the mind. It is good for Psychic protection, Cleansing, In meditations to activate Kundalini, to balance the right and left brain, to remove addictions, for healing past traumas, to clear emotional blockages, to remove negative energies and bad vibrations, to restore emotional balance and harmony.

3. HON SHA ZE SHO NEN or The Distance Symbol :

The God in Me, greets the God in you, to promote enlightenment and peace

This is the Distant Healing Symbol and it is used to send Reiki over distance and time (past, present, future), to anyone and anything.

4. TAM-A-RA-SHA or The Balanicg Factor:

To balance and to unblock the energy chakra centres, so that the energy can flow smoothly, this symbol is used.

It also helps to reduce or dissipate the pain.

5. DAI KO MY or The Master symbol

This is the most powerful symbol in the Reiki therapy.

This symbol is used to heal the soul, because it deals with the soul, and our spiritual self. It heals the diseases, and illness, and attempts to eliminate the root cause.

It helps to provide peace and enlightenment.

"A healer's power stems not from any special ability, but from maintaining the courage and awareness to embody and express the universal healing power that every human being naturally possesses.”

What Is The Basis of Reiki as an Alternative Therapy?

  • Reiki combines the utilization of the life force, which is present in all living beings. It‘s the combination of warmth, reassurance, and healing power of :human touch..
  • It is also popularly called as, 'hands-on-healing technique' The universal life force is everywhere, unlimited, abundant, and available to everyone. Moreover, it is environment friendly and cost effective, suitable for everyone.
  • To work as a Reiki practitioner, it is more important to be dedicated than to be greatly skilled. Since the practitioner has to use his/her specific energy to help in the healing process. Reiki fills the practitioners with vital force that fuels their own healing system, enabling it to work more efficiently to heal others.
  • Healing is considered on all levels--mind, emotions, body, spirit. Because a lack of harmony on any level or a discord between levels may cause imbalance.

Reiki therapy is spiritual, but not religious:

Reiki does not belong to any particular religion. People of different faith, and culture are initiated into it, and benefit from it.

In the fast paced life, people have lost the link to their own spirituality, and therefore the connection to the "supreme or higher self" is also lost.

The loss of this natural, and also necessary link has caused many problems that people encounter everyday.

Reiki helps to reconnect with the 'Supreme' and helps in self discovery.

Nothing is so healing as the human touch.

-----Bobby Fischer

Do you believe that alternative therapies work?

See results

To Sum Up:

To answer the question, whether Reiki is effective as an alternative therapy--Yes, it can, and it has in many cases.

Though, it does not mean that it will be effective in every case. Faith is important for such treatments to work, by both the patient and the practitioner.

The Reiki practitioner needs to be trained and attuned by a master. Reiki practitioners have to undergo three degrees or levels of training.

Many masters and training centers are devoted for Reiki treatment training and it’s not so difficult as well.

This is a self help therapy, as one can initiate treatment to self as well.

Reiki may not make huge changes in a person’s life, but it will change him/her as a person, with positive thoughts, during stressful times in life.

Reiki also helps with insights, to meet the challenges of life and helps to lead a fulfilling life.

Remember: Alternative therapies are no substitute for medical treatments of diseases/ ailments.

Thank you MizBejabbars, for your kind visit and comments!

Its good to know that you are a Reiki practitioner yourself. Of course you must be knowing much more than me. And I appreciate you for sharing your valuable comments and experiences.

I was really very much impressed by the healing impact it had on some of my friends and relatives and just wanted to share what they felt about this wonderful therapy.

And yes I have heard about the 'distance Reiki' as well. Amazing to hear how it really works.

Many thanks for your insightful comments. I am sure those reading it would benefit from your experiences regarding this beautiful healing alternative therapy.

      Thank you!

Chitrangada, this article interested me because I am a Reike practitioner, although I still lack one level to get the Masters level. I got interested in this after I was in a city bus rollover that broke a vertebra in my back. A friend at work had her first level training and asked me if I would let her work on the pain in my back. Her hand was so warm and soothing that I immediately got interested and involved. The symbols take a lot of memorizing, so as soon as I can get back to the “books” so to speak, I want to finish my training.

There is only one statement here that I think is incorrect, and that the patient must have faith that it will work. A patient can be a skeptic, like I was at first, and still benefit, or he or she can refuse permission for a treatment. A practitioner can send “distance Reike” to a person in need and without that person’s knowledge. This is sent on the soul level and, in this case, the soul may give permission and the person benefits without the conscious mind ever knowing. However, if the soul refuses permission, the person does not receive the treatment sent.

Reike is always done in the spirit of love and is a beautiful healing process.

I was tried once by a practicioner who was the wife of my former boss. I had backache at that time when I was working and she offered me her help. She was learning Reiki at that time. She put her hands above my naked back in our office and I felt the energy coming from her hands that went to my back. She was not touching me but I felt the warmth of her hands. I was surprised as I have not experienced that before and her Reiki was helping me then. Thanks for reminding me that feelings. Voted this up and shared.

I agree with your views. The faulty lifestyle has led to many diseases in human beings. Best way to improve situation is to go back to Nature and that is possible by alternative natural healing methods.

I believe in these alternative therapies and since they don't have side effects, there is no harm in trying them along with other clinical methods of treatment.

Remember in the old days, how people used to feel that osteopathic hospitals were not real medicine? People seem to feel in many ways that alternative medicine, like natural healing is not good, either, but they speak for themselves, in my opinion. I have learned never to discount something that you do not understand.

I think a lot of alternative medicine could rely on the placebo effect. However, as long as nobody is losing his life fortune or doing something actively dangerous, I have no problem with it. If it works and does not harm, why not?

Even I heard about this treatment then only and I am grateful to this alternative therapy which I believe has a psychological effect on the disturbed mind.

Again its important to note that it may not have the same effect on everyone and cannot be a replacement for medicines.

I agree with your views that if someone cares for you, their affectionate touch can work and heal in a magical way, something which even the medicines can fail to do. May be Reiki also works on the same principles.

I do believe in alternative therapies and have seen them working. Medicines can cure the disease of the body but the human mind is mysterious and you never know what suits it.

At the same time it is important to mention that it may work for some and may not be as effective for others, who do not believe in these alternative therapies.

Reiki practitioners claim that Reiki benefits are unlimited and can be used to induce a healing effect. They claim that anyone can gain access to this energy by means of an attunement process carried out by a Reiki Master, which has three to four degrees or levels of training. There are many certified Reiki teachers as well as books available for this. You may find the information online as well.

I'm so glad your relative was helped. I'm surprised that they didn't offer her Reiki in the hospital while she was there. Many nurses are trained and often volunteers are available for in-room visits.

Reiki is very hard to explain as the mechanism of action is unknown. I have had very good results with clients, but the healing comes from the client and not me. It helps the body relax, taking it from the stressful cortisol fueled sympathetic nervous system - which is where sleeping and anxiety are located - to the parasympathetic nervous system where healing is enabled. I tell clients that it induces a similar state of deep meditation without the "work" or learning to meditate. No claims should be made except that: it can help digestion, relaxation, and sleep problems. No other studies have been done and claims other than those can be misleading. All other things are anecdotal.

I had heard of Reiki, but I didn't know much about it. Has it been tested for the placebo effect? Someone caring for you and touching you can heal all by itself without any special technique. I think some alternative therapies work some of the time. If someone gets benefit, placebo or no, it has worked for them.
