Is Workplace Health And Safety Important?

Updated on January 2, 2011

Health And Safety

It is your responsibility to understand that knowing health and safety at work is of most importance.  The problem is you may have not taken the time to understand the reasons for safety in the work.  The point of the matter is there are probably a lot more reasons than you have ever thought of.

The biggest reason to focus on health and safety in the workplace is because it works for everybody that is in employed where you work.  People work in a healthy and safe manner, at the end of day it is much easier to get their tasks accomplished.  It turn working safely benefits everyone around you including the company you work for.  When you're working at a place of business that focuses on health and safety and there's less risk of injury so much more will get accomplished.  With less people taking time off work things will be more productive which works well for both employers and employees.

Another reason to focus on safety and health in the work environment is you are doing away with unnecessary risks and complications.  Of course no one wants to have to deal with injuries or the back fall of the results of the injuries.  It only makes sense the better we focus on health and safety in the workplace the least chance we have of having to deal with problems.

Another important issue to look at when talking about health and safety workplace is what it does for the moral of every single worker in the company.  The key is to do whatever it takes to get your employees coming to work with a smile on their face.  If everyone is happy because of their surroundings we will succeed in getting the best job that is possible.

It does not have to be difficult when you start dealing with health and safety in the workplace.  It also doesn't have to take up everyone's time.  The key is to start small, accomplish your goals and make sure everyone who works there knows things are moving in a positive manner.  Just by doing these little things it won't take long to see positive employees.  Because of this the employer will have less to worry about if everyone wants to work with confidence and be happy with the health and safety implemented in their workplace.

It's all about getting started, once you make that decision to focus on health and safety in the workplace that everything else will fall into place.  It's just like anything else, if you maintain it eventually health and safety will just come naturally to you and the people working around you.  Because of this you will also realize your loving the place you are working.

As a member of the health and safety board of a chemical aerospace company long ago I learned the importance of health and safety in all work places.

Every company needs to have this in place if no more than planning and executing escape routes during emergencies. I've worked at large retail grocery chains that should practice safety, polices are in place, but not implemented.

I've seen fire exits blocked by grocery inventory, isles not kept clean or clear of slippery material and employees not using proper procedure when dealing with chemicals or cleaning up spills.

You would think that health and safety would be practiced by all just in an effort to practice cost efficiency. Corporations could prevent lawsuits from slip and falls or injury to employees if they would practice their policies.

You've done a fantastic job on this hub, voted up, marked useful and shared.

In some workplaces we have to consider the health and safety issues.Eg. Mining industries,Oil refining,. Health related issues are mainly in hospitals.

Howdy Dale - If a person is knowledgeable and alert to the ding-dongs who work close by, they should be OK. In my hospital work the biggest health and safety hazards were fellow workers who didn't wash their little hands often enough. The rest of it was a piece of cake.

As being someone who has worked directly in the safety field for the last 10 years GNelson you are absolutely correct. It seems that safety is the easiest to cut out of the budget when times become a little lean.

The thing is most employers end up playing catch up later on down the road when they think it is once again time to implement safety.

Workplace health and safety is one of the costs that tend to get cut during hard times. Good and timely hub.
