FOURTEEN QUICK PICK-ME-UP IDEAS FOR WOMEN
FEELING A LITTLE ON THE BLAH SIDE? HERE ARE SOME QUICK, EASY, AND CHEAP PICK-ME-UPS THAT WILL HELP!
1). PICK OUT A FUNKY NEW SHADE OF NAIL POLISH...something you wouldn't ordinarily wear, like say...lime green! It will give your eyes and your brain a boost.
2). SPLURGE ON SOME BRAND NEW EYE-SHADOW (Walgreens sells a whole colorful palette of 12 sparkly eye-shadows...Profusion Colour Me Glow Palette... for a mere 99 cents)! Experiment with different colors. Wear purple over pink....bronze over purple...just have fun. Dare to be daring! It will help draw you out of your rut!
3). BUY ONE OF THOSE LIP PLUMPERS...(C'mon, you know you always wanted to try one). Get a cheap one for under five bucks. Now, smooth it on...feel the interesting prickly biting sensations...do your lips look shinier and plumper? What do you know? THEY DO!
4). GET SOME MORE HAIR! The cost of hair extensions has come down, and they're available everywhere! So why not give them a try? Fiddle around with curly, straight, long, shorter - find out what works for you. I like wearing some right by my face, so I can feel feel fun and sexy, at all times!
Another fun pick-me-up, is to add different colors of hair into your own hair. Try some clip-on auburn hair, for instance...of if you're in a really crazy wild mood, clip in some pink or purple pieces!
Also, while we're still in "hair mode," maybe you could color your hair a brand new color! Go blonde! Go red! Go chestnut!
Sometimes, CUTTING your hair lifts up your mood. If you've had the same style for years - change it up....cut off four inches and feel lighter and freer and younger!
Note: Just don't grab the kid's crafts scissors, rush into the bathroom, and start hacking. This will surely NOT improve your mood - in fact, it will probably send you right over the edge!
Not brave enough to make a major change to your hair? No problem! Just buy some cute new hair accessories.
5). BUY SOMETHING THAT SMELLS GOOD! Try a perfume with undertones of citrus...citrus is a natural mood elevator...or buy a perfume that is delightfully nostalgic for you, such as Love's Baby Soft...something that reminds you of a simpler time. Scent is the most powerful memory inducer, by the way. Purchase a yummy air freshner that smells like apple nut muffins baking, or a lotion that smells like whipped strawberries and cream! Why not try an orangey cinammon vanilla scented candle? Can't find that particular scent? That's because I just made it up! But you get the idea.
6). BUY (OR RENT) A FUNNY MOVIE! Laughter truly is the best medicine. Check out those 5 dollar bins at Walmart. Sometimes you can find some real jewels in there if you dig far enough! My husband recently found all 3 Austin Powers movies in one case, for just ten bucks!
7). SCOOP UP SOME CHEAP JEWELS! Fun costume jewelry is a bright and cheerful pick-me-up that won't break the bank! Rhinestones; a cute new charm bracelet, dangly (or daring!) feather earrings; the perfect red beaded bracelet to go with that dress...Walmart, Target, The Dollar Store...who says you need to shop at Tiffany's to feel good?
8). TREAT YOURSELF TO A ......TREAT! A decadent Godiva dark chocolate and raspberry bar; soft serve ice-cream with sprinkles on top; a frozen caramel frappe from McDonalds; a slice of pizza from your favorite pizzeria....why not treat yourself to a yummy treat? That go-to food or drink that always fills you with heavenly bliss....did someone mention calories? This isn't the time to count!
When you treat yourself to a fun treat, it is like a positive affirmation...you feel like you deserve it, and your brain processes this information and rewards you with feel-good endorphins. (Now don't blow it all by feeling guilty afterwards)!
9). BUY A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE! It has been proven....caring about someone else's happiness will in turn, make YOU feel happier!
Maybe it's that piece of antique glass for your mom, or that Butterfinger bar for your husband, because you know that's his favorite candy bar, or what about that Beanie Baby mouse your daughter has been clammoring for?....and don't forget pets! Scooping up a new chew toy for your pup, or some fancy gerbil food for your gerbil will make you feel mighty good...(Many dollar stores offer really cute cat toys for just a buck! I recently bought my own cats this fluffy eggplant toy with a feather on top stuffed with catnip that they absolutelyadore)!
10). SCORE A NEW BRIGHTLY COLORED ACCENT FOR YOUR HOME. It may sound silly, but a brand new dish towel with colorful fish swimming all over it really gives me a boost. And it's a cheap boost, since I can score a new dish towel for a buck!
Any bright and cheerful accent for your home will act as a mood elevator...a zippy little orange vase....a gorgeous purple pillow....just like buying accessories for yourself, your house benefits from little bursts of color and newness, too...and your mood will benefit as well!
11). BUY SOMETHING TO ADD TO A "COLLECTION" OR IN YOUR FAVORITE COLOR. Do you collect rooster themed things for the kitchen? Penguin figurines? Frogs? Whatever it is, why not treat yourself to another addition to your collection? Or maybe you want to go on a "favorite color" hunt. Go into a store, and hunt down something...anything...jewelry, a top, a dish...in your favorite color! Buying yourself a little present that totally represents "YOU" will remind you that YOU are indeed a very deserving person!
12). SPLURGE ON A NEW ACCESSORY! You might be tempted to embark on a full blown shoping spree to lift you out of the dumps..WARNING! This may be a mistake. In your down-on-yourself funk, you may end up spending way too much money on stuff that you don't even want! Or...you could easily end up cursing out your reflection in the dressing room mirror, and hating yourself even more.
What's the solution? Accessories! Sticking to small, cheap, fun and colorful accessories when you are feeling on the blah side is the way to go. They aren't as big of an investment - financially or otherwise. (And there's no need to confront yourself in that dreaded dressing room mirror)!
Now I already mentioned jewelry and hair accessories...but there are also cool patterned tights, a faux leopard purse, a cheerful red wallet, a sparkly new keychain, silly socks, comfy colorful P.J.'s, jazzy purple gloves with a matching hat and scarf; funky sneakers....you get the idea!
13). Get crafty! Waltz on down your local Michael's Craft shop and just take a look around. What appeals to you? What do you think you would enjoy making? Or log into Michael's website and check out their current projects. Most are easy to make, and the supplies won't cost you much. Unleash your long lost artistic abilities! Get lost in a fun project! Make home-made gifts! You can even start an Etsy account and have people buy your creations.
14). WRITE A HUB at HUB PAGES! Now there's the best idea yet, right?
