Updated on March 21, 2011

In this article you are going to find information about LASIK eye surgery procedure, how long recovery lasts, LASIK surgery side effects and a tip how to find a good surgeon for the procedure.

About LASIK eye surgery procedure

With this procedure, almost every eye refractive anomaly can be corrected. Procedure is extremely safe. To minimize side effects, patients that go under this procedure are carefully selected. LASIK eye surgery procedure is simple to describe: surgeon cuts with a special instrument a very thin flap of cornea, removes the flap, exposing inner layers of cornea, and then with a special computer guided laser reshapes cornea. After that, corneal flap is replaced and that’s it. Whole procedure lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes. Procedure is painless, because before procedure anesthetic drops are applied. After surgery, a patient gets antibiotic drops to apply every day and goes home. Vision is completely recovered after a week or two. Control exams are performed few times in the first month after LASIK procedure, after six months once and after one year once.

What are the side effects of LASIK?

Statistics show that only 5% of patients treated with LASIK method have some mild side effects of procedure. These mild side effects are: aberrations that distort vision (for example nighttime halos), dry eye, inflammation, irritation, swelling, infection and temporary redness. All these conditions can be cured with proper medications and cured in a short time. More serious conditions are extremely rare, and fortunately, can be treated successfully.

What about “do not go to LASIK” rumors?

Well, every surgery has some risk of serious complications. LASIK is VERY safe procedure and some serious complications are EXTREMELY RARE.

It’s up to you to find a good surgeon.

Before you go to surgery, make sure that surgeon that will perform the LASIK eye surgery procedure, is experienced. It is not rude to ask him for a referral and someone's credentials. A good surgeon will not have a problem to provide you with such information.

So, if you are tired of your vision glasses or contact lenses and you want to get rid of them quickly forever and to have a good vision again,

then LASIK eye surgery procedure is a solution that you should think about.
