Can Light Therapy, Garlic or Oregano Stop a Cold Sore in Its Tracks?

I have done much research on this all to familiar problem, cold sores, and have listed many options to take combating them. Please check back from time to time as I will update as new information becomes available.

LIGHT THERAPY - Passing an infrared light over your mouth will stop cold sores dead in its tracks. Other cold sore remedies are listed here as well. Bookmark this page for new findings as they come available. My friend called me up this morning and explained a little how light therapy works. She told me she was at a meeting with people that had the LED lights and was even able to use them. Ironically, at the time a tingling sensation/start of a cold sore was surfacing. She said she passed the light over her mouth several times and she did not break out in a cold sore. This inspired me to hub her findings.

ABOUT LIGHT THERAPY

When infrared light penetrates your body's tissue, it increases the production of collagen. What's collagen? Collagen strengthens your body’s cells and makes them more resistant to the virus. It also enhances your immune system, aiding your body’s ability to heal.

There are two colors of lights, red and blue. Both stimulate the production of collagen, The color you choose depends on what your needs are. Blue LEDs are the best choice for your cold sores and acne. Red LEDs are used for wrinkles, sun damage and many other skin conditions.

Of course, if you have continual outbreaks of cold sores you must know all the symptoms and prevention. Just to reiterate, a dermatologist, medication, vitamin B's, plenty of sleep, limited stress, little exposure to sun and avoiding prolonged exposure to change of weather is not your only alternative to combating cold sores. There are many types of LED light units on the market. My friend said you can buy a travel size battery operated LED light for about $150 and/or you can buy a LED light bulb,(blue or red) that you put into your light socket for about $35. When I checked LED lights out on the internet I realized that there are many options so I suggest you do your own research on the use of LED lights and Light Therapy, If you have any medical conditions going on surf the effects as well.

Now as for the other options to get rid of these buggers faster so you can get on with your life wearing your pretty face again:

An Alternative for Antibiotics

COLLOIDAL SILVER - Saturate a cotton ball with silver solution and apply to affected area. The longer you keep it on the better the outcome. If you do this before blisters occur, you will be able to get rid of the beast in 1-3 days before it ever breaks out into the blisters. Now, if you don't want to deal with ever having cold sores again, use Colloidal Silver as a daily supplement.

ABOUT COLLOIDAL SILVER

Colloidal Silver can be used as an antibiotic. It is proven to kill 650 disease causing organisms. It is nontoxic pure metallic microscopic silver floating around in pure distilled water. In the health food stores 4 ounces can run up to $60 or more.

Before making my own I used to keep the store bought silver in my house during the winter months especially as a preventative measure to assure good health and combat surprise cold sore outbreaks. Since you can take it internally, you allow it to work on you from the inside out. Metallic Silver (Colloid) is non-toxic, however, nitrate the other compounds of silver are and should not ingested. Environmental Protection Agency's Poison Control Center reports no toxicity listing for Colloidal Silver, considering it harmless in any concentration.

A LITTLE HISTORY ON COLLOIDAL SILVER - It has been used as far back as 1938 and because of this, the FDA has stated that it may continue to be marketed. Back than when people did not have refrigerators, they would place a silver dollar in the bottom of the milk container to keep the milk fresh. Ten parts per million is a good program to be on for excellent health! (you will have to make an initial investment and purchase a parts per million meter). You may have heard people say oh no that stuff is dangerous, it turns you blue. It is not. They have been brain washed from the media because if everyone used it they would have no need for antibiotics.

OREGANO

Important, use therapeutic essential oil. I use Young Living. Apply to the cold sore and it will instantly take away the itchy tingling sensation and if used regularly can eliminate outbreaks. Put three drops orally under tong at the first sign of outbreak and do this every day. Be ready for some stinging though and it smells pretty bad. This will stop the outbreak if you catch it in time. Have someone apply the oil on your spine/waste regularly. This virus hides there and you can permanently kill it if you do this on a regular basis.

ABOUT OREGANO

Oregano is a considered a "hot" essential oil distilled from the oregano plant that contains thymol and carvacol two compounds that works to prevent fungi and worms. Importantly, when taken in large dosages it can reduce the body's ability to absorb iron, but, if used moderately has no ill effects. It works as an antiseptic. Since it is a healing oil, it soothes and helps heal inflamed and infected skin. It is a powerful oil and can sting areas that are not affected at all. You can dilute it with olive oil if the sting is too overpowering or if you get it in your eyes. Do not use in or around your eye or in your ears or nose. If you do put a dab of olive oil on the the area where it stings. It will dilute the oil and subside the sting. Oh My God Oregano is so good for sore throat and cold. Trace it in bread and swallow. Almost immediate cure.

ESSENTIAL OIL, THERAPEUTICALLY BLENDED, PURE

People, please listen up. Use pure therapeutically blended essential oil when using recipes below. Do your homework on this. I am a member of a company that I trust full hardheartedly. Pure essential oils are more expensive but so worth it. All benefits point in your direction when you choose the best. Below came from Christmas "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy" by Valerie Ann Worwood. I put it on my Amozon wish list and got it. Wooooooo

"If you have a cold sore around your mouth of feel that one might be coming, put 1 drop of geranium oil on a cotton swab and apply it directly onto the sore. Repeat several times a day. Also, apply the following body oil over the whole torso, including the neck.

Geranium 10 drops

Lavender 10 drops

Thyme linalol 2 drops

Lemon 8 drops

Delute the above essential oils in 2 tbs. (30 ml.) of carrier oil, and use about 2 tsp. (10 mL) of the blend per application.

NOTE: carrier oil coconut, almond, olive, etc.

An alternative blend:

Eucalyptus radiata 6 drops

Tea Tree Oil 2 drops

Geranium 10 drops

Ravensara 8 drops

Dilute the above essential oils in a tablespoon (10mL) of carrier oil, and use about 2 tsp (10 mL of blend per application.

Although pure melissa essential oil is very expensive, it's extremely effective against herpes simple and is prescribed widely in Europe for this purpose. It can be applied directly to the affected site and may assist in reducing the severity of the outbreak.

Other oils that can be used to treat this condition are: chamomile german, rose otto, cedarwood atlas, ho wood, hyssop palmarosa, fragonia.

All information relating to this Essential oil capsule came from a book I have been absorbed in: "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy" Valerie Ann Worwood. What a find. Like you are walking around with your personal doctor that treats you with plant based uplifting choices." BREATHING DEEP

Prescription Drugs

ACLAVORE 800 MG WORKS

Yes, some prescription drugs do work. Keep it on hand. You must be in tune with your living habits though. Your body will speak to you, but you have to learn to be in tune with, listen to and feel the signs your body is telling you. Changes in life style? Over eating on sweets? Too much sun? A fall? Stress? Chapped lips from too much love making perhaps? More irritable? A little too much partying?

THE FIRST TINGLE????????? Take the medication. It's that simple. Talk to your doctor about your options.

CREAMS

ABREVA - A cream that when applied topically to the cold sore blisters activates quickly and kills the cold sore deep down to the roots. It works rather quickly if you continually apply three times a day drying out the cold sore and healing the scab within as little as three days.

ABOUT ABREVA

This is an over-the-counter ointment that contains Benzyl alcohol which is produced naturally by many plants and is commonly found in fruits and teas. It is also found in a variety of essential oils including jasmine, hyacinth, and ylang-ylang. Abreva also contains light mineral oil, propylene glycol purified water, sucrose distearate and sucrose stearate.

GARLIC

Crush a garlic and apply the juice directly on the cold sore. It will sting, but as they say no pain no gain. Once is all you need unless it is a very big cold sore. After you have done this and the pain and itchy sensation subsides apply honey to the area as this will help the healing process. I have read in many places that when one uses garlic as a medicine for their cold sore another does not occur for years.

ABOUT GARLIC

Garlic has antibiotic properties and boosts he immune system. It has been used for years as an active medicine. It can be used to fight fungus like athletes foot. It can fight skin infection, blistering, prevent clogging and lowers blood pressure. A true antioxidant. Using garlic in foods is great, but you get the best medicinal properties if you use it toward the end of your cooking time.

Coconut Oil

At the first sign of tingle apply Virgin Coconut oil on the affected area. You can also use a Virgin Coconut Oil Bandage. You must also ingest the Virgin Coconut oil. Take as much as you can. Specifically use your body weight as a guide for dosage. A 150lb person should take 3-4 tablespoons daily. It works for some by taking just a tablespoon a day. Spread intake through the day for best results. Incorporate Virgin Coconut Oil in your diet on a consistent basis.

ABOUT COCONUT OIL - The dosage was based on the amount of Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA - Curative powers) found in breast milk. The oil is two-thirds (MCFA). Coconut has antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties. It strengthens the immune system and has countless other benefits. This is why you should regularly keep it in your diet. It is one of nature's best "germ fighters." Who knows maybe this one just might keep those buggers out of your life forever.

1/28/13 Cosco sells Virgin Coconut Oil not 64oz for only $15.00. That is a true bargain. I stock up so I always have it. I butter my toast, cook my eggs and use it in a multitude of recipes. The more you eat it the more lubricated you get from the inside out. It is a win win product.
