Lavender – Health Benefits to me

Updated on September 27, 2011

I love Lavender, particularly Lavender Essential Oil and here are some ways I enjoy it and use it to calm the senses. Its refreshing aroma removes nervous exhaustion, restlessness and increases mental activity -reducing stress.

Lavender can be found in health/beauty products or used as an Essential oil for Aromatherapy.

Yardleys Lavender Bath

Bubble Bath

It’s that time of the year again when I indulge in long hot Bubble bath’s nearly every day as. It’s my way of keeping warm in winter.

My Favourite Bubble baths are Yardley and Radox Herbal bath with Lavender. I also put in a few drops of Lavender Essential oil as it’s tremondously relaxing. Experts say: when Essential oils are inhaled, they work on the brain and nervous system through stimulation of the olfactory nerves.

Sleeping

Most of the time, I put a few drops on my pillow. Lavender essential oil actually induces sleep and some people use it to treat insomnia. Once my head is on the pillow, you'll never find me counting sheep on the ceiling.

Oil Burner

Ps. When buying Lavender Essential oils, especially online. (as you can’t smell it before buying) Note Bulgarian Lavender Essential oil, actually smells much nicer than the normal Lavender Essential oil.

Burning Oils

A few drops in a Burner, gives the whole house a natural beautiful smell. Lavender has the Latin name Lavare, which means “to wash”; Lavender has antiseptic qualities. So, I am giving my home a clean aroma as well as relaxing my nerves.

Washing Up

OK. I’ve taken it a bit too far but sometimes I do like to use Lavender Washing up Liquid. My excuse – it motivates me to do the washing up. Also, like Lavender antibacterial wipes for the Kitchen. Maybe, I'm a Lavenderholic - if there is such a word.

* * *

There are many more Benefits of Lavender. It’s used for respiratory disorders, skin care, hair (lice). I won’t elaborate on them as you can read them on the Internet. Besides, I haven’t used them that way yet, but the points noted above are how I use it regularly and enjoy the benefits - Proven. I buy my Essential oils from Naturallythinking.com. Its very good quality and priced reasonably.

Full benefits of Lavender Essential oil are below and also if you want to try out others or read about there benefits. E.g Lemon oil, Jasmine oil, Orange oil etc. See link below.

Lavenderholic may not be a word; but, it sure is a condition. I love lavender; and, I, too, use lavender everywhere. It is one of the most versatile essential oils on the market. Thanks for the article.

Loooove lavender! - and fortunately I have a cousin in England who brings it to NYC for me. Lovely, lovely, lovely. In fact I have some and think I'll go take a sniff - it does give me energy and a sense of well-being. Just thinking about lavender makes me feel good.

Lovely, feel good hub! Many thanks!

I've always liked lavender however when I started getting migraines I tried everything I could think of and a lady at the health store to keep lavender handy to help prevent and shorten the length of migraines and it really works. I now LOVE the stuff.

I really do like the smell of lavender, but unfortunately, it reminds me of my ex, who was a "lavenderholic" like yourself, lol. You did an excellent job on this hub, Lady_E. I also liked how you recommended Bulgarian Lavender over plain Lavender. Nice touch! Thanks again. I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Wao. Very informative. I have heard but not used lavender before. Good to note that it could also be used to "clean up".

Not only is the scent of lavender soothing but the color itself is very calming. We all need things in our lives that bring feelings of peace and comfort.

      Thanks, Lady E!

I'm a Lavender fan too, I've just one plant but my mother has around ten. I love its scent and it made wonders to heal my cat's eyes.

Happy New Year Lady, and to all other hubbers.

A great hub on the benefits of natural herbs…I also love lavender and now, with my new home, I have a yard to fill with lavender plants. You are so fortunate to have such glorious fields of lavender to enjoy.

      Happy New Year my dear!

Gush! Romantic! Locals in Africa make medicines by using heat to extract the components of the leaves of Citrus plants. This Article shows that apart from a remedy for the immediate Ailment, they could indirectly be boosting their mentalities.

Lady E thank you for this information - didn't know that about Lavender especially about 'sleep' which is very interesting for me because I do find it difficult to sleep. Maybe I should try Lavender (not sure about the washing-up though!). Thanks again Lady E. I'll look to see if you have any more 'aromatic' hubs!

Lol Amorea - Yes, I think you should leave out the Washing up Liquid. It's very good for promoting sleep though.

      Thanks for stopping.
