Lavender Helps Acne

Updated on June 8, 2012

Natural Alternative To Harsh Chemicals

If you have been to the dermatologist and tried many over the counter products then I may be able to give you a natural remedy. First, try to figure out what type of acne you have or what it is caused by. Is it hormones, an allergic reaction, stress, oily skin, or your diet? Once you figure out what type of acne you have, then you can begin to attack the problem.

I won't be talking today about how to naturally attack all of those particular causes of acne, but I am going to give you insight on how I reduced my acne breakouts. I never suffered with acne until I turned 27. My hormones went crazy! I tried many chemicals on my skin like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and prescriptions like retinol. Then one day I realized these treatments were a temporary fix because it was not natural. Maybe just maybe it was harming my skin.

This is where natural remedies come in. I started to read about the oil cleansing method and how oils can actually improve your skin. So, after researching I came across lavender oil. Lavender oil has SO many benefits. However, the benefits to your skin are a true miracle. It helps shrink large pores by gently cleaning out the pores and resulting in smaller pores. The swelling of dirt and impurities in the pores can make your pores appear much bigger than they should be. Lavender oil is an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

By lavender oil being antibacterial, it means that it will kill the bacteria (or dirt) on your skin and it will help stop the growth of the bacteria. Since lavender oil is an anti-inflammatory it will reduce inflammation or swelling. We all know too well how acne tends to swell, become inflamed, and red. This inflammation causes pain and becomes irritated. Lavender oil will get rid of the redness and irritation by attacking the inflammation. Also, lavender oil will reduce your stress by aromatherapy. Stress is one cause acne and if you can reduce stress, you can most likely reduce acne as well.

This article is simply what has helped me personally and it a natural alternative to harsh chemicals. This does not replace professional medical care or advice. Also, please educate yourself about natural remedies and test your skin before applying any oil to the skin in the event of an allergic reaction.
