Lemon Water: Diet Drink or A Detox Plan. Losing weight the easy way!
I have always been cynical about all these diet programs that are widely available in the market; specially the ones that drains people's wallet. I prefer to stay healthy by eating nutritious food, being active and maybe try some natural substitutes to loose some weight here and there. I rather adhere to plans that involves natural products rather than paying 100s; and take some pills or powder and follow a no calorie diet. To me those are just schemes for making money out of gullible people. Now think about it, if you were on 500 calorie diet you are bound to lose weight anyway! You don't need to take these $100 pills with it. Now come on people, don't you see the scam behind all this .....
Last year I tried out this Cinnamon Honey drink and it worked wonderfully for me, Cheap and All Natural!
Few months ago, a friend of mine introduced us to this Lemon Water Detox program that she was using for detoxing her body and to lose few pounds! I was not very convinced about the whole thing. All these claims seemed little hyped up and I was not going to sit there and acknowledge everything they say. I mean, there are so many positive effects that this little lemon water seem to have...... That was kind of hard to believe!
Well, I gave it some thought and wanted to find out for myself how good 'this drink' really was! I mean, all these claims seems kind of superficial! But, since this is 'all natural', Lemon and Water, what can go wrong! So, I took the plunge......
I decide to test out the lemon water detox program for few months and see what happens.
The Benefits of drinking lemon water are as follows:
Weight Loss: lemon is high in pectin fiber which helps in subsiding hunger craving.
Aids in digestion
Acts as diuretic, thus washes off unwanted toxins from the body.
Helps the immune system: high in vitamin C and potassium.
Helps with blood pressure
Method: How I Did It
Majority of these detox/weight loss plans requires you to drink the juice of one lemon with hot/warm water, twice a day; first thing in the morning and then at night. Some requires you to go on a strict diet along with it. Some even wants you to consume nothing for few weeks except for liquid!! Ever heard of 'Beyonce Knowles' going on a lemon detox plan? Talk about extreme!
Well, I couldn't do any of the above ..... I had to have my coffee first thing in the morning. Bad! I wanted to keep this as normal as I could without sacrificing a whole lot and without changing my daily routine.
So, I decided to carryout my own experiment:
- First thing in the morning - A mug of coffee, with milk and sweetener.
- Then an hour later I took the lemon drink. I used the juice of half a lemon (medium size), 1/2 tsp of honey (this is just to sweeten the drink. You can use other sugar substitutes if you want), and one cup of hot water. - I didn't feel hungry until lunch.
- Around lunch time I had a bowl of oatmeal, or some crackers with cheese and turkey (cold cuts), lettuce and cucumbers.
- For supper I ate a regular healthy meal, and I didn't cut down on anything.
- As for exercising, I do 20 mins of walking and only 10 min. of steps almost everyday. Missing it here and there didn't seem to be a problem.
Weight loss: I have manage to lose 12 lbs. in ten weeks. It has greatly subsided my cravings and I don't feel hungry. And surprisingly, I don't crave sweet as much as I use to. I have a very bad sweet-tooth and love desserts after dinner. After starting this routine of drinking lemon water I had no problem not eating dessert, or sweets.
Acts as diuretic: Sure does! And i am not a keen water drinker, but this is forcing me to drink more water everyday.
Helps with blood pressure: I have hypertension and I have been on medication for last 4 years. My Blood Pressure has always fluctuated even with the med. Any strenuous activity, or little stress would make my pressure go up. But now it has not gone hay-wired for the past 2 months. I think that alone is worth sticking to the lemon drink!
Clear Skin: I have never had any problem with my skin, but since I have been taking this, I have noticed a glow on my skin, and it just looks fresher. People have commented on it and asked me if I was using any new cream or products for it!
But I see a more positive effect on my friends skin. She used to get dark blotches, and acnes. The blotches are completely gone, and her acne has reduced significantly!

I have decided to stick to the lemon drink as long as I can. The results have been quite positive for me, specially for my health. And I would recommend it in a blink of an eye. But my advice is - do what suits YOU. You don't want to start something that you can not fit into your schedule or your routine, and you end up giving it up completely.
This is not hard to do, have the Lemon drink in the morning and evening (if you want to do it twice a day), eat a healthy meal, and stay active; simple! Give it a try and see...... You have Nothing to lose, except, maybe some pounds!
