Live Life With Your Eyes Open

Updated on August 14, 2015

Are You Living in a Time Warp?

Do you ever find yourself living in the past or the future rather than the present? Are you so worried about what's going to happen tomorrow that you can't enjoy today? Are you so upset about what happened yesterday that you can't let go of the hurts of the past and move on?

Maybe you're so busy dreaming about your awesome future that you don't have the time to take the steps necessary to turn that future you are dreaming about into a reality.

It's easy to get caught up in a sort of time warp that pulls us from the present and keeps us living in the past and future.

As if this wasn't tempting enough already, technology and social media in particular have made it possible for people to spend as much time as they want virtually living in different time zones and locations.

I can confess that I've been guilty of this plenty of times. I think I'm going to quickly check my Facebook account, and pretty soon not only am I shocked that a whole hour has gone by, but I'm annoyed at myself for the time that I've wasted

We live in a world where sometimes you have to really fight to live in the here and now, but it's definitely a battle that's worth fighting.

Living in a time warp robs us of the joy and fulfillment that we are meant to experience today.

Do you feel like you are stuck living in a time warp on a regular basis?

This book was a total game changer for me. It helped me to pull myself out of the time warp and start living my dreams in the present.

Open Your Eyes to the Opportunities Around You

You don't want to spend all of your hours day dreaming, but that doesn't mean that it's not important to have dreams. Our dreams are what motivate us to change, progress, and keep moving forward.

Dream big. Make time today to write down your biggest dreams and aspirations. Don't put limits on your dreams when you're making this list. Assume that all dreams are possible to achieve.

Once you have this list, figure out what you want to work on first. Develop a laser clear focus, and start moving toward that dream.

There is a way to accomplish that dream if you really want it, so open your eyes to the opportunities that are available to you right now, and start moving forward.

Recognize that each moment is an opportunity to move towards your dream or away from it depending on how you choose to spend your time.

A moment spent with your eyes closed to opportunity is a moment wasted.

Make sure that you are consciously choosing each activity that you participate in. If it's not helping you to accomplish your dreams, it might not be an activity that's worthy of your time today.

As you maintain a focus on achieving your dreams, your eyes will be open to many opportunities around you that you might have overlooked in the past.

Open Your Eyes to the Blessings That Surround You

Just like a laser clear focus on achieving your dreams opens your eyes to opportunities around you, a conscious desire to recognize the blessings that surround you will quickly open your eyes to a constant flow of love and tender mercies.

People may attribute these blessings to a number of sources. Some people might simply feel that they are lucky. Others feel like the universe is on their side. I personally attribute this out pouring of blessings, love, and tender mercies to God who I believe is my Heavenly Father and always has my best interest in mind.

Regardless of where you think your blessings come from, you will notice that you are more blessed than you might think as soon as you choose to open your eyes to all of the love, beauty, and opportunity that surrounds you.

Spend some time out in nature. Breathe in the beauty of the earth. Count each opportunity as a blessing. Set aside some time to spend with a family member or dear friend and really listen to what they have to say instead of letting your mind wander to other things. Laugh out loud! Enjoy your life!

Earlier this week my husband and I slept out under the stars so that we could watch the beautiful Perseid meteor shower.

The next morning as I was talking to my husband about how amazing that experience was for me, he confessed that he had only seen two shooting stars.

I wasn't sure how that was even possible since I had seen so many. He said that he was really tired and actually didn't spend much time looking up at the sky.

This inspiring truth from Thomas S. Monson simultaneously came to mind for both of us..."It's better to look up."

Open your eyes to the blessings that surround you and you will experience the joy and fulfillment that is often lacking when you spend your days living in a time warp.

Leave the Time Warp Behind By Opening Your Eyes in the Present

My challenge to you now is to leave the time warp behind by opening your eyes in the present.

I know it's easy to fall victim to the time warp. There are so many addicting distractions available to you today that can consume so much of your life without you even realizing that much time has gone by.

You don't have to be a victim though. I challenge you to Dream big, open your eyes to the opportunities around you, and open your eyes to the blessings that are being poured down on you every moment.

When you do these things, your life will be transformed. You will find all the joy and fulfillment that you could ever ask for.
