Lose 3lbs A Day On The HCG Diet - But Be Careful You Could lose More Than Weight!

The HCG diet is back on the market, and is becoming more popular than when it first appeared in the 1950s. It is almost guaranteed that you can lose weight on the program very quickly, and it has been reported that you can lose weight of up to 3lbs a day. But at what cost?

 

What Exactly Is HCG?

HCG is a hormone that is produced in the placenta of women during pregnancy to bring nutrients to the placenta by using fat stores. It is also made synthetically for fertility treatments and weight loss.

The reason why HCG is used in weight loss preparations is because it affects the part of the brain that influences the metabolic rate, and utilises fat stores around the stomach, thighs, and underarms. The exact spots that most dieters want to slim down!


What Is The HCG Diet?

The HCG Diet is a program that uses either HCG injections, drops or creams together with a very low calorie diet to promote weight loss.

How Does the HCG Diet Work?

Believers in the HCG diet make incredible and amazing claims that the HCG hormone helps to lose weight fast, burn fat and redistribute fat. The diet works by the dieter receiving daily injections of HCG and following a very low calorie diet of 500 to 800 calories per day. The diet purports that the HCG injection causes the metabolism to burn fat and the dieter to lose 1lb a day.

Does the HCG Diet Work?

In a nutshell, yes it does. The claims state that a typical dieter on the HCG diet loses an average of between 1 to 3 pounds per day.

The Mayo Clinic Nutritionist Jennifer Nelson believes that, “because the HCG diet combines injections or supplements of the HCG hormone along with severe calorie restriction, you may lose weight — at least for the short term. But it's the calorie restriction that causes the weight loss, not the HCG.”


Is the HCG Diet Safe?

It has to be questioned whether the rapid weight loss is due to the HCG hormone or the extremely low calorie diet of 500 to 800 calories, which is approximately one-fourth to one half of the standard recommended daily calorie intake.

It has not been proven that the HCG hormone actually produces weight loss. Rather, it is the severe, calorie restricted diet that promotes weight loss. In fact it is not recommended that you follow such a restrictive diet as it will not supply your nutritional needs. There are also some unpleasant side effects, such as dry skin, brittle nails, thinning hair and gallstones when you lose weight too rapidly.

Siide effects from taking HCG injections also exist and you may experience:

  • Headaches,
  • Tiredness
  • Irritability and
  • Male breast enlargement

Although the HCG diet is a quick fix to weight loss it is not recommended that you stay on the diet for too long.

The HCG hormone has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a treatment for obesity or weight control.
