Lose Weight and Get Healthy with Juices

Updated on June 23, 2010

If you are looking to lose weight or have finally decided that it was time to start living healthier, juices are a great start. Now, I’m not talking about heading to the local grocery and buying a bunch of pre-made juice drinks, I’m talking about getting down and dirty with a juicer and some real ingredients. Store-bought juices and juice drinks have added preservatives, sugar, and sometimes contain very little real juice. If you are serious about heading down the weight-loss trail, you need a real juicer and some fresh fruits and vegetables.

The benefits of using a juicer to create your own drinks are very simple. You can use the freshest, healthiest ingredients and you are getting more than just the juice. You also get the pulp and all of the nutrients out of the fruits and vegetables. Also, you can custom create your drinks to best suit your needs and personal tastes. If you find that you do not like the taste of a particular combination, add a few of your favorite flavors to change the taste. The final benefit is cost. The ingredients for your juicer are all inexpensive and you could never find as healthy of a beverage anywhere else.

The best way to lose weight with a juicer is to replace one meal a day with a juice drink. Also, if you feel the need to snack, fire up the juicer and make yourself something to curb your hunger. Another trick that I have heard has great results, but must admit that I have not yet tried for more than one day, is juice fasting. Juice fasting is the replacement of all of your meals with nothing but fresh fruit and vegetable juices. It works because it naturally cleanses your body of all of the toxin that are stored in your colon. I know that it works, but lack the will power to go beyond one day.

Some of the best recipes for juicing for weight loss and body cleansing are:

  • ½ Pink Grapefruit with 2 Apples
  • 4 Carrots, 1 Apple, 1 Stalk of Celery, A handful of Baby Spinach leaves & Half a Lemon
  • Watermelon, Cantaloupe, and a little fresh Ginger
  • 10 Strawberries, 1 Banana, 2 Oranges & 1 Red Grapefruit
  • 10 Strawberries, 1 Orange & ½ Lemon

Try different combinations and experiment to find your favorite mixtures. Ginger, red pepper flakes, jalapenos, and other spicy ingredients can overpower any flavors that you might not like. Just be careful how many you add, you don’t want to make it undrinkable! There are plenty of self-help websites that can help you find more recipes and success stories.
