My Last Visit With Grandma.

My Last Visit With Grandma.

You were old, an cold

as I adjusted your covers,
and tried to dry your eyes,
as you wept with tears
that seemed endless.

They had just told us

uknownst to you that
internal bleeding,
would take your life soon,
and that we should make our
last visit that evening.

I touched your wrinkled face,
that I had so loved as a kid,
and so loved even more now.

Your pale blue,

cataract filmed eyes,
gazed at me in fear,
as you cried out,
"I don't want to die here."

I had no words for you,
I simply bent to kiss you,
and tell you,
"It'll be okay grandma."
"I love you."

But I never fooled you when I lied,
and I could see the understanding
as it slipped into your eyes,
and in that moment you were
the bravest woman alive,
because you said

" I love you too, honey."
"I'll see you soon."

It was hard to leave you
in that sterile place,
where your internal organs bled
to a failure we all must pass.

The next time I saw you
you were cold to me...
as I kissed your
embalmed flesh
and sang my

sad goodbyes
in a November

frosted marble crypt.

tears again .. you touch the core of emotions inside. So many goodbyes came to mind. I'll see you soon .. there is the hope and the smile.
