Natural Remedies for High Blood Pressure in Lungs:Pulmonary Hypertension
Hello, this is living with pulmonary hypertension since 2004. Okay, I know that pulmonary hypertension is a rare and deadly disease but I would like you to know that there is a hope and we can still live a quality of life, Nothing is impossible. We have to have a positive attitude and determination to do anything, to stay strong and active.
Do not see a doctor who makes you feel you cannot get better. Negative suggestions and talks can have a disastrous effect on your health.
Find another doctor and stay in touch with them. This is very crucial to take all the medications as prescribed and go for a regular checkup. Always, follow healthy balanced diet, do yoga and exercises.
What is Pulmonary Hypertension?
When the small arteries of the lung become narrowed due to autoimmune disease, COPD,heart condition, HIV or some other unknown reason, they cannot carry as much blood as they would do normally. Therefore, the right side of heart start working harder and harder and a pressure builds up in the lung which is called pulmonary hypertension. How the blood reaches in to the lungs? The right side of the heart pumps blood into the lungs. The blood picks up oxygen from the lungs and then returns to the left side of the heart. From left side of the heart it travels to entire body. So, this means, pressure affects both heart and lungs and prevent their ability to work properly. The lung`s pressure is different than the normal high blood pressure. Over the years pulmonary hypertension makes the right side of the heart to become larger. Sadly, there is not enough blood to flows in to the lungs to pick up oxygen and deliver to the other parts of the body. At this point the heart failure could happen to the right side of the heart and is called cor pulmonale.
Since I follow these steps and I know that these are the most effective home remedies to stabilized pulmonary hypertension condition:
- Garlic is the best home remedies that contain high antioxidant and polyphenol. Start adding chopped garlic (Finely chop and weight 5 minutes before taking it) in your food.
- Keep your food intake light and easy to digest. Stay away with milk and milk products to reduce mucous.
- If you have constipation due to side effect of your medication, take Psyllium Husk or Psyllium tablets.
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol and quit smoke. All of them can cause the worst effect on your lungs, gastrointestinal, nervous system and urinary tract.
- Control your weight so that your heart does not have to work hard.
- Do not stress out. Stay calm and peaceful, breathe deep.
- Do not work out strenuously that can dramatically lower blood pressure or increase your blood pressure
- Do exercise as much as possible. Stay active
- Do not live at high attitude or travel unless your doctor permits you.
- Get enough sleep and rest.
Diet for Pulmonary Hypertension
Consume foods that are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids which increases the production of nitric oxide. Nitric Oxide is a soluble gas and synthesized by endothelial cells and plays an important role to treat pulmonary hypertension.
The other foods that help to boost healthy endothelial cells are antioxidants like vitamins C and E and polyphenols like onions, grapes, apples, dark leaf, red wine, soy protein and prune.
Eating heart-healthy diet like fruits, vegetables, pasta, rice, nuts and olive oil with only a couple servings of chicken or fish each week.
Beta carotein helps repair and protect lung tissues.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant healing agent and reduces oxygen need.
Follow the diet could decrease endothelial abnormalities.
Breathing Yoga Exercise
Yoga plays an important role in healing so many diseases, like high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and coronary heart diseases. There are five essential parts of the yoga technique. The first one is yoga asana or postures then pranayam or breathing technique, deep relaxation, imaginary or visualization and meditation. But if you think it`s too much to do, then at least do Anulom-Vilom and Kapalbhati daily. These two breathing techniques are helping me tremendously to stabilize my pulmonary conditions and other problems since last 8 years.
Anulom Vilom Breathing Exercise:
Sit in a quiet place with close your eyes. Relax in this position for 2 minutes. With the right thumb, close your right nostril.Breathe in from your left nostril, count to 4. Hold the breath count to 2.Now open your right nostril and close left nostril with middle and ring finger together. Breathe out from right nostril. Count to 8. This is one round.
Do these again, breathe in from right nostril, close the right nostril. Open left nostril and breathe out. Repeat again, steps 1 through 7.You need to practice this breathing exercise for about 10-12 minutes every day. Make sure to breathe deep into your lungs and not into the stomach. Most parts that absorb oxygen are in our lungs, not in stomach. This is one of the most effective breathing exercise to purify the mind and releasing stress and anxiety.

Kapalbhati Breathing Exercise
What is Kapalbhati? "Kapal" means forehead and "bhati" means shining glow on your forehead. This is also done in sitting position and quite place. You need to focus more on exhaling while inhaling at normal pace. When you exhale it contracts the abdominal muscles. Continue exhaling as long as you can without paying much attention on inhaling. Do this for five minutes and then rest. Continue the same procedure again for another 5 minutes. You need to practice this kapalbhati breathing exercise for 15 minutes.

To reduce your stress and anxiety, calm the brain, balance the energies and avoid any heart diseases and lung disease, do meditation once daily. Sit in a comfortable position cross both your legs, bring your hands together and inhale deep in to your lungs. Press both hands against each other and hold them close to your heart like as if you are doing prayer. Close your eyes and stay in this position for 5 minutes till you feel calm and peace inside your body. Do this every day for only 5-10 minutes.
