New Year New You- The Washer & The Car
Most of us know more about what goes into our car then we do about what goes into our body.
When we go on a diet we usually think about deprivation, being hungry, or not getting to eat what we want, but have you ever thought of your body as a machine? That's really what it is. It's a breathing, moving, functioning machine. In this article I compare your body machine to two machines we use almost daily. It is important to feed and take care of your body just like you would any other working machine..
To get an idea of how your body works you only have to look as far as your driveway. Most of us own a car. For your car to get you places you have to add gas and oil. Your car needs fuel to even run and it needs oil to keep all the parts lubricated. Your body is the same way it needs water to hydrate all the cells but it also needs vitamins and minerals to function properly.
Your car not only needs gas and oil but it also needs brake fluid, windshield cleaner and maybe antifreeze. Your body does too. Our body depends on the fats in our foods to lubricate all of our organs. There are good oils and bad oils as well as there are good fats and bad fats. So its important to know what to feed your car and your body for peak performance.
We all know that if we keep up on our car care it will take us many places for many years. Our body is the same way. It needs a precise set of nutrients to run efficiently and if you get those nutrients your body will take care of you for years. It's just as important to take care of your body as it was to take care of your car.
Now let’s look at another important piece of equipment most of us own. At some point in your life I’m sure you have bought or at least used a washing machine.
i mean we all want clean clothes. The first time you used the washer you probably got some sort of instruction either from another person or from reading the manual. You or a professional plugged the washer in and you or a professional hooked it up to the hot and cold water. See how much time have already spent learning about your washing machine? Think, how much time do you spend reading about what you put into your body?
Back to the washer, you are ready to do your first load. Did you know right off how to separate the loads into dark and light garments, or did you have to learn about it? You may have read the instruction manual on what settings to use for dark's. You probably also learned what laundry detergent to use. Does your machine use regular detergent or do you have a high efficiency machine? See how much research you’ve done? When was the last time you looked at a food label? Do you even know what a serving size is? Do you know there is a recommended serving size?
Get as educated your food as you are about your appliances. It’s a matter of your health.
You are ready to start your washer. You get your laundry detergent bottle and read the label to see how much you should add, probably about a cap full. You add the soap and choose the settings. Now you read up on when and how to add the fabric softener. When was the last time you read this much about what you eat? How much you eat is as important as what you eat.
Let’s go back and start over. What if when you got your washer you didn’t read any manuals?What if instead of hooking up the hot and cold to the appropriate taps you reversed them? What if instead of separating your clothes you added both dark's and whites to the same load? What if instead of one cap full of detergent you add three cap fulls? What if instead of using the detergent and softener holders you pour both items directly on the clothes?
Here's what would happen, first your load would probably wash in hot water even though you wanted cold, second, you’re going to need a few extra rinses to get all the soap out. Next your fabric softener is rendered ineffective because you added it at the beginning of the cycle. If you did this just once to your washer would probably recover. However, if you do this on a regular basis your washer will most likely break down sooner rather than later.
How many of us overeat? How many of us eat the wrong things on a regular basis? I wouldn’t be writing this article if it wasn’t an issue. How many times a day do you nosh on empty calories? Do you count your vegetable and fruit servings? Do you even get fruits and vegetables every day? Your body will get to the point will it can no longer function efficiently without the proper nutrients. It may be smaller issues that build into bigger ones, or it may hit you all at once with a catastrophic illness.
Your body like the washer needs certain things in order to run efficiently. If you over load it, it will start breaking down. Obesity is abuse to your body. Our bodies were never meant to hold the amount of food most of us stuff into it. If you keep over loading your washer it will break down just like your body will if you keep over loading it.
Obesity is an incredible strain on your immune system. It increases your chances of getting a myriad of illnesses. If that isn’t enough to want to get healthy remember that carrying excess weight raises your chances of getting type II diabetes, pancreatitis, gall stones, acid reflux, sleep apnea, skin infections and reproductive disorders. It also increases your risk of arthritis, heart problems, cancer and many other medical maladies.
If you keep eating the wrong foods on a regular basis your body will start to rebel. It starts out slow. Maybe is occasional heart burn or upset stomach that you ignore, but it can turn into a long term illness that will require lifelong medication. How long are you going to keep stuffing yourself full of food and then counter acting its effects with pills? How long are you going to ignore the symptoms?
Most of us become immune to the signals our bodies are sending us. The more you overindulge the more you tax your system and the harder your system has to work to try to repair itself. When your body can no longer repair itself on it’s own, you will probably have to rely on medicine to fix your health issues. It’s gotten to the point where we prefer the quick fix of a pill over finding ways to not get sick in the first place.
I agree that some medical issues are unforeseen and take us by surprise, but how many illnesses can we avoid just by eating right and exercising? Many of our health problems can be totally reversed just by keeping your body at an average weight?
It’s time to take back your power. You deserve better. It’s time to turn this around and make a life-long plan to get healthy. You deserve to feel better. it's time to care more about taking care of your health than how well you treat your appliances. It’s time to learn more about what you put into your body than what you put into your car. It’s time, it’s time, it’s time!!!
