Are you struggling to find balance? Have you been a little down lately? Do you need to pay more attention to your mind and body? It can be tough taking good care of yourself mentally and physically during the winter.

It’s important to practice self-awarness for your emotional and physical being. Especially during the cold season of winter. Winter has an tendency to bring us in a zone of comfort that we might not know how to get out of.

In order to keep yourself happy and healthy during the winter, you’ll need to start pampering yourself. Practicing these self-care tips will help set you up for success.

During the winter it's easy to get caught up in the whole hibernating instinct. Nesting is in our nature as humans. But we also need vitamin D to keep our bones strong and to keep us in good spirits through those long winter months. So it's imperative that you get at least one hour of sunlight each and every day.

I know it's easier to stay indoors where it's warm and cozy during the cold but the fact is you need the sun to help boost your spirits. Spending a decent amount of time in dark sheltered environments can actually decrease the amount of serotonin in your brain. This can cause you to become sad and even depressed.

Do yourself a favor and let the sun shine on you.

Meditation is a wonderful thing. You should practice meditating all year long but more so during the winter. The winter is also known as "the holidays." And the holidays can be a pretty hectic time for most. It can be hard to stay mindful and peaceful during this season thus, meditation is key.

All you need is 10-15 minutes of quiet time each day. And for those of you who say you don't have the time, this can be any time of day. It could be when you first wake up, while you're drinking your coffee, after work, or even right before bed.

Being mindful takes repetitive practice. But it’s a crucial way to recharge and take care of yourself during the winter. Especially if you are responsible for taking care of others. Don't worry about struggling at first. There are plenty of resources out there to help. Resources like books, blogs, and apps.

Pampering ourselves is something our busy lives tend to push away from us. Take a minute to check in with yourself and see what your body needs. Is your skin dry? Do you need to soak in a hot bath? Could you go for a nice hot cup of cocoa?

Set aside some time for yourself to take care of your wants and needs. Soak in a hot bath with a face mask. Put a big sweater on and enjoy a hot cup of coffee. Lather yourself in coconut oil to relieve that dry skin. This is a time for you to take your mind off the day to day stresses and just relax.
