Everyone should be aware of potential dangers of Phthalates...

I was doing some medical research the other day and came upon a health issue, although many have not ever heard of this issue ,I feel everyone, especially parents should be aware … this is only one of many that exist and it will change the future of our children….I felt it should be shared...

Just recently it caught the attention of the media and investigative reporters are covering the subject...yet some still choose to call it " untrue and a myth ".and WE all know to DENY means obviously it doesn't exist..right ? You be the judge..and decide for yourself....

Phthalates…known as " esters " are substances added to plastics to increase flexibility , and is found in PVC piping which is used in most home these days, replacing metal piping ,such as copper. It is cheaper and outlasts the metal piping of yesteryear, and you will see it is found in many products that our children come in contact with on a daily basis .

What effect does this have on our drinking water/cooking and bathing of our bodies, especially the children ?

Research and indepth testing has found Phthalates disrupts the working of the endocrine/hormone system , thus introducing the onset of many new disorders and health issues . It is found in multiple materials which we and our children are exposed to daily… toys, teething rings , school supplies, backpacks, vinyl flooring, wall covering, detergents, food packaging, cosmetics such as nail polish, hair spray, soaps, shampoos ,skin moisturizers , perfume , mosquito repellants , backpacks, blood bags/tubing including IV and rubber gloves.... We are being bombarded.

Recent studies by Dr. Shanna Swan , an epidemiologist at the University of Rochester Medical School compared levels of Phthalates in pregnant women regarding the health of baby boys they gave birth to. The higher the level of Phthalates , the greater the problems occurred in young boys. This evidence was found in several subtle ways discovered by Pediatric urologist Dr. Howard Snyder from Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, his finding showed an alarming increase of deformed sex organs. This disorder known as “ hypospadias” causes problems with urination, sperm count and lowers the testosterone levels in adult males, 30-40 years ago statistics showed I out of 300 live birth males, whereas today 1 out of 100 ! and remember they’re in the IV bags and tubing used on premature babies…so again children are being exposed from day one……thus causing health issues into adulthood.

The Medical profession is becoming aware of this danger and is now addressing the issue and warning the public to.. 20/20 did an investigative report and On September 26,2012 Channel 6 News in Orlando Florida had media coverage on this matter...

Remember " Knowledge is Power "....

Make 2013 the year to start taking responsibility for the " future of our Children " and be sure to start checking labels of products you buy for yourself and family. It has been reported Phthalates is NOT used in plastic bottles of water or soda….ALWAYS double check...

We need to step up and take notice..There are many changes going on in the food industry, healthcare , education, etc that we are not aware of due to the fact that the public is not always privy to the information...and yet when it does surface, we question
" when and how did that happen "..we need to take charge and change everything...

there's already " genetically engineered apples, corn, tomatoes just to name a few ".

Watch for further articles on " genetically engineered fruits, vegetables and other products "

I'm glad it's not used in water bottles, but look at all the other unsafe places - good grief!

Omigosh! And I thought BPA was the worry with plastic. I'm very concerned about our unsafe food supply, GMOs, pesticide residue and BPA, but was not aware of Phthalates. From your list of products that contain this substance, it seems ubiquitous, yet I'd never read or heard of it before reading this hub. The very thought that it is used in hospitals is frightening. I will certainly learn more and share this info with some watchdog organizations that try to force change in this country through petitions.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and that of your other readers.

JayeWisdom..Just recently this subject is leaking into the media..and regardless what the NON believers perceive regarding the subject of the affect it has on young boys..it has been proven..and could affect future generations..by the way to make matters worse, recently they have introduced to the food supply " genetically engineered apples" just the beginning...I will be doing a hub on this subject soon..still researching...thanks for reading and passing on..
