Portland Dentists

Dentists in Portland

Portland has plenty of dentists so finding one really shouldn't be a problem, unfortunately this often isn't the case. Sure you can probably find a dentist without to much trouble but what you really want is to find a dentist you are comfortable with. The sheer number of dentists in Portland make it pretty much impossible to visit all of them so you will need to have plan for making your selection.

Traditionally the standard approach to finding a dentist is to grab the Yellow Pages and call the first name they see listed. Really not a great approach, choosing a dentist isn't the sort of thing that you want to leave up to random chance. Asking friends and family for a referral is a better option but not a great one. The internet offers all kinds of reviews of Portland dentists, but again this isn't a great way to make a decision. These can be a good way to narrow down the field but ultimately you are going to have to choose your own dentist. You will be having long term relationship with this person you need to make sure you are comfortable with the. Just because a dentist has lots of good reviews doesn't mean you will be comfortable with them.

After narrowing the field and compiling a list of potential dentists you are going to want to visit the dentists on your list. You will want to ask them about their qualifications, don't worry to much about where they went to dental school, all dental schools produce good dentists. You shouldn't have to worry about encountering an unqualified dentist, it is extremely unlikely that you will encounter an unlicensed Portland dentist. The thing you are going to want to ask about is what kind specialized services he offers and what kind of training and experience he has to provide those services. Dentistry has become a highly specialized profession and no dentist is capable of offering every available dental procedure.

People tend to choose a dentist who is located close to where they live, this is understandable, nobody wants to have to drive to the other side of Portland just to see their dentist. You should keep in mind however that you will likely only need to make the trip a couple of times a year so location shouldn't be your prime consideration. If you find a dentist you like who happens to be located on the other side of the city it is probably worthwhile to make the trip. Most Portland dentists have come to the realization that a lot of people can't take the time off of work to visit the dentist so they have started offering extended hours. Usually this meas staying open into the evening but some dentists in Portland are open early in the morning so that you can visit before work if you choose.
