How to Write and Say Positive Affirmations

I have been using affirmations for years now, and share with you some tips that have helped me to become more positive.

One might be thinking, why call them positive affirmations. Aren't affirmations supposed to be positive? Yes, the best kind are. Actually an affirmation is anything that one affirms, whether it is positive or not. So its best to use the ones that feel good.

How to make positive affirmations

Method 1

There are several methods that I'm going to go over, that you can use, for making positive affirmations.

One is to make a list of things you want to eliminate from your thinking. Then go back and on a separate sheet of paper, rephrase each item on your elimination list into a positive statement.

For instance, say an item on the eliminate list is: negative thinking. So on your new sheet of paper, you could re-word that to: I now choose to think positive thoughts. Your mind may come up with a bunch of arguments as to why you don't already think positive thoughts.

Time for a new sheet of paper. Write down each one of those arguments, followed by your new positive affirmation. It will probably look something like this:

I choose to think positive thoughts.

Who you?

I choose to think positive thoughts.

You never have before!

I choose to think positive thoughts.

Well maybe.

So do this two step process for at least ten repetitions.

By re-affirming in this way, you are letting your subconscious mind know that you mean business. Also, writing down your new desires is a great way to reinfoce your new message to your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is where all those arguments came from based on past thoughts you thought before.

Make a clean list of your positive affirmations. Then tear up or shred the elimination thoughts, affirming that you now choose to think positive thoughts.

How to make positive affirmations

Method 2

Another method for coming up with positive affirmations is to think about someone you like and admire. Write down the positive thoughts you have about them. Then say them mentally and also out loud.

It might sound something like this:

"You are beautiful.

You are intelligent.

You have a beautiful smile.

I love you."

After you have a list, re-write the list, replacing the word you with your name. Then stand in front of a mirror and tell yourself those wonderful positive affirmations about yourself.

If any arguing comes up during this, then use the first method listed above on those.

You deserve to feel good about yourself.

The most helpful book that I've read, that gives a good foundation to making affirmations is Key to Yourself. - Venice Bloodworth talks about our own power that

A very important concept to understand, when making affirmations.

Key to Yourself: Opening the Door to a Joyful Life From Within
Key to Yourself: Opening the Door to a Joyful Life From Within

Choose from paper back, hard back, and Kindle editions.

Here is a power boost for self esteem. You can read, listen, and even have time to say them aloud.

Affirmation Tip

From time to time, think of something you feel good about.

More on developing your positive affirmations

Method 3

Another method for making positive affirmations is to write down your desires on how you'd like to be, what you'd like to have, and what you'd like to do.

To begin this method, it is best to be in a place of peace. So at a time when you are feeling peaceful, sit down and think about some things you'd like to have, be, or do. You can pick one type at a time if you'd like, such as just things that you'd like to have. Write them down as you think about them. Continue this process as long as you're feeling peaceful. You're just giving yourself permission to dream.

Once you've done that, then make an appreciation list of the things that you already have, are, are doing. It's good to remind yourself of the things you are already grateful for and have in your life.

Fine Tuning Your Positive Affirmations

Affirmation Tips - 1

Once you have done some of the techniques in developing your positive affirmations, then it is time to fine tune them.

If you watched any of the affirmation videos on You Tube, you may have noticed that the affirmations had some things in common.

They were generally short. - It's easier to remember things when they are short, and they can also rhyme.

They are in the present tense. - It is best to give the subconscious mind instructions in the present tense, so that the future that you want will at sometime be your present.

The words used were positive. - Remember the steps about re-writing to rephrase things. If you're wanting to create positive feel goods, then you have to start by programming with the positive feel goods.

Repetition of Your Positive Affirmations

Affirmation Tips - 2

Repetition is an important tool with any kind of learning. Another important tool that you can add is to also make the repetition fun. Sometimes ideas are:

Sing them - in the shower, the car, etc.

Listen to them - record them and then play them back. Leave enough time between each one that you could also easily repeat them in-between. Music in the background can also be helpful.

Re-write them - writing them is a slower process that is more readily taken in.

Tell them or sing them to yourself while looking in the mirror.

Daily is good, twice daily can be better. Most self help books recommend a minimum of 21 days straight to make your new positive affirmations be more of a habit. And then continue.

When your positive affirmations become your new beliefs, then what you experience in your outer world will start being a reflection of the new beliefs you've created. Enjoy.

Affirmations Tip

Make using positive affirmations a daily part of your life.

Examples of Positive Affirmations

I like myself; I like others.

I am willing to see the good in myself.

I am willing to see the good in others.

I like myself.

I like you.

I feel good when I smile.

I bring out the best in others.

I like people.

People like me.

I like using positive affirmations.

I like repeating my positive affirmations.

Positive affirmations are helping me transform.

Make positive affirmations from a list of your favorite words

Make a resource of positive words.

It's good to have a source of positive words that you like. So just in general, write down your favorite words. Then look them up in a dictionary and write down the favorite parts of their meanings. All of this will help you have even more favorite feel good words to choose from when making your positive affirmations.

Wouldn't it be nice to accept that all is well?

I find it helpful to place sayings, like all is well, where I'll see them from time to time. Then I can read them whenever, without having to think about it.

Using affirmations have become a way of life

You could say it's a lifestyle change.

Self talk is ongoing. Initially I started using affirmations as a once in a while thing, now I know that it's more of a lifestyle change. Once you get in the habit of using affirmations, and recognizing that they work, then you usually want to start watching how you normally talk.

Great Job! Six years ago, when the company I worked for when under, my wife and I decided to start our own homebased food delivery business. I was tough and it was SCARY. But we made it through by FORCING ourselves to think positively. I was hard at first, but now when problems crop up, it's so much easier to think positive. Positive Affirmations work!
