Practical Weight Loss Tips

Updated on June 27, 2010

There are many weight loss articles offering diet and exercise tips, but if you really want to find the best weight loss tips look to the experts for advice. Bob Greene is a successful personal trainer and diet expert who has helped many people to lose weight. He became an overnight sensation after he began working with talk show host Oprah Winfrey. As Oprah’s personal trainer he taught her what type of foods to eat, and how to get the most out of her exercise routines. Bob Greene's simple dieting tips are popular because they are easy to follow and they make sense.

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking a minimum of six glasses of water a day will help you to shed pounds and stay hydrated. Researches have found that people who drink the recommended daily amount of water eat fewer calories each day. This makes total sense since water helps you to feel fuller and sometimes people eat because they think they are hungry, when they are actually thirsty.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day because it gives your metabolism a boost. An active metabolism helps you to burn calories throughout the day. The earlier you eat breakfast the sooner you metabolism will kick into gear.

Give Up Your Evening Snacks

Your metabolism slows down in the evening as your body prepares itself for sleep. Your body will have a hard time burning off the calories of the foods you eat throughout the evening, making midnight snacks a bad idea for dieters. If you get the late night munchies try drinking an herbal tea to satisfy your hunger.

Give Up Sugary Treats

Sugar-filled foods are not only filled with empty calories, they also keep you continuously craving more sweets. After eating sugar you feel great for a while but it won’t be long before you come crashing down, and begin looking for your next sugar fix. When you stop eating sugary foods it is easier to make healthier food choices because you will no longer have intense sugar cravings to deal with. It can be difficult to give up sugar but a sugar-free diet will help you to control your weight.

Get Some Exercise

Aerobic exercise burns calories and raises your metabolism. For those who have a slow metabolism, exercise is essential to weight loss. Dieting alone cannot give you the same great results as a combination of a healthy diet and exercise. Aerobic exercise will give you more energy, and strength training exercises will help you to build muscle. The muscle you gain will help you to burn even more fat. For the best results exercise is the early morning to raise your metabolism throughout the day.

When it comes to tips on weight loss stick to the experts advice. There are a lot of crazy weight loss tips out there that may end up making you sick. Eating nothing but grapefruit for a week or going on a liquid diet may cause short term weight loss, but will not provide you with a healthy long term solution. Healthy eating and exercise is always the best way to go.
