Prolonged sitting - Health risks
In this modern world people are working hours and hours sitting in their seats. It sounds cool and happy to work relaxed in sitting position but on long-standing it may cause many problems.Just take a look of the problems we can from prolonged sitting :
1.Deep vein thrombosis :Small blood clots may appear in legs called as Deep vein thrombosis.Swelling and pain occurs in legs ,feet and ankles.
2.Obesity : Working in sitting position do not burn calories that lead to gaining weight in turn results in obesity.
3.Muscle weakness and Joint tights : People cannot maintain correct posture in prolonged sitting thus causes muscle weakness and joint stiffness which in turn leads to back pain,neck pain and body pains.
4.Knee pain : In sitting posture the angle formed near the knee is 90o. This angulation may cause knee pain and swelling.
5.Neck problems :Especially in cases of computer usage neck problems are common along with pain in fingers.
6.Diabetes : In sitting position body does not need much blood sugars.So the sugar levels in blood rises which gradually may lead to type -2 Diabetes.
7.Cholesterol : Prolonged sitting reduces the enzyme activity level to 90%. So conversion of fats into enzymes reduces and increases the cholesterol levels in body.
8.Slow metabolism : Lack of movement reduces metabolic rate of the body.
9.Herniated disc : Human body is not designed for prolonged sitting.So it generates heavy weight on spinal cord and hip bones and causes injuries.The disc dislocates and causes severe back pain.
10.Heart diseases : Prolonged sitting increases the risk of heart diseases also.
What to do for Safety:-
1. Work out or exercise twice daily.
2.Walk atleast 10 feet for every one hour.
3.Stretch your muscles and slight movement of your body for every 2 hours.
4.Take back rest and support while working.
5.Try to maintain correct sitting posture.
