Prostate Cancer and other concerns on Men's Health

Updated on July 12, 2011

Prostate Cancer ruins Men's Lives

Safety is the best policy. This best applies to men who are all susceptible to this death-leading disease, prostate cancer. I'm not exempted from this problem. Even the father of our family doctor, who's also a doctor had been a victim of this cancer and claimed his life. His son could do nothing but advise on his medication and gradually waited for his calculated death.

My relative who's in his early 60s suffered the same fate but the disease was caught at an early stage. He didn't go under severe medical treatment. His doctor advised him to take a selenium-rich supplement that is believed to reduce the risk of prostate overgrowth.

My former bosun was also warned of little granules being felt by our medical examiner on the strategic part between the testicles and prostate gland, indicating that it has fat buildup in the area. But it's still curable; he's taking selenium rich supplement , too.

Our doctor advised us, seafarers to have a self-examination on prostate. It's the basic way to determine if it is still functioning normally. The signs, include frequent urination, sometimes in a stacatto (stop-eject-stop-eject) motion, unlike the normal way when a man is still young.

Familiarization on Prostate Cancer

Prostrate cancer is the leading cause of death among men. I’ve already delved on other men’s problem during old age, andropause that is the counterpart of menopause. If cervical cancer is the leading cause of death among women in the world, prostate cancer poses a great danger to all men due to its deadly attributes.

The prostate gland is located between the anus and the men’s reproductive organ. It is responsible for the secretion of the semen for sexual reproduction. My personal experience (as a seafarer) involves rectal examination to determine the situation of prostate gland. You will never be allowed to work overseas if you have symptoms of prostate cancer. It must be cured first before allowing you to work abroad.

Prostate cancer is apparent among men if abnormal cells are detected especially during old age of 50s. Having this cancer can be genetics in origin or the kind of lifestyle he practices and food intake that a patient indulges.

Particular symptoms of having an abnormal prostate gland that can lead to cancer are frequent and painful urination, painful ejaculation, smear of blood both in urine and semen.

Transsextal ultra sounding of the prostate should be administered to men having the symptoms. Doctors say that more often than not, the cancer is detected on its advanced stage. Digital rectal examination is also conducted to determine the prostate’s condition. If not treated or operated during the curable stage, death awaits for those men who have the cancer.

Other concerns on Men's Health

Prostate cancer is the so-called “run of the mill” or the main concern of many doctors who specializes on men’s disease and deficiencies.

Aside from prostate cancer, andropause is the next thing being treated and administer for men. (Please check my hub about it ).

From simple to complex problems, most of us, men are so secretive that often causes more complications on their performance and how they treat their partners in bed or view their marriage.

If you’re having one of these problems, you better visit the clinic of your doctor-specialist (urologist) in the neighborhood.

Premature ejaculation - is not a simple problem after all. Your partner, girlfriend or wife will be disgusted if you finish the sexual act too early if you had ejaculated very fast. Foreplay will help in order to prolong the romantic moments happening whenever you have intimate acts with you love one.

Erectile dysfunction - is often attributed to having serious diseases. If the male organ doesn’t harden anymore and you cannot satisfy your partner in terms of sexual needs, there are recommendations that your urologist will give. Testosterone injection is often recommended; not only by just drinking performance-enhancing pill or drugs (as in Viagra that can be dangerous if you have a heart ailment).

Androgen deficiency - is also associated with andropause. Doctors will help solve your problem in case to case basis.

Hydrocele - enlarges the testicles due to the stored fluid. It can be soft or hard (cystic). Basically, hydrocele is not painful but it can be if infected on the epididymis. Men who are affected are complaining about the weight and size of their testicles. It can be developed if the testes had been subjected to trauma or hurt, infected or exposed in radiation.

Other concerns are UTI (urinary tract infection), lung diseases (due to excessive smoking), STD (sexually transmitted diseases), other ailments like diabetes, heart disease, hair loss, et cetera.

Thanks for the appreciation, Ma'am Lita. Next year, I'll be forty and I'm going to have a PSA laboratory test. Just in case.

Prostate cancer creeps into any man without warning. Those aged 35 and above must be aware of this fatal disease ahead in order for them to take precautions. This is done through a regular PSA laboratory test.

A sick prostate can still be saved because of various alternative approaches. But once the cancer cells go out of the capsule,(outside the prostate), they attack the pelvic bone(metastasize), and the symptoms of discomfort begin to be felt. Prostate cancer is a painful fatal disease.

I'm speaking from a traumatic experience. My husband died at age 48 of this disease. This is a very useful hub for men. Nice job, travel_man.

Every part of our body is important. As for me, I am only 99.9 % human because I underwent appendectomy in 1993. Something is missing in my body parts (the appendix). Much more with prostate glands.
