Red Raspberry Leaf Tea, a Woman's Best Friend

My spotlight herb for Women is Red Raspberry Leaf Tea, not mixed with any other herbs but just straight Red Raspberry. I have recommended this tea to countless women and the accolades and thanks I receive from them you would think I was a heaven sent! I have encountered so many women that suffer with that special gift that Eve gave to us all. That time of the month and labor pains during child birth! Either they have an issue with not having a menstrual cycle regularly, or when they do; they are bedridden with cramps and bloating . I was once in that category and I suffered every month. If I had only known about this Tea years ago my suffering would not have been so difficult.
If you are preparing to be a mother, or you are actually expecting; this is a wonderful herbal remedy for you!
Let’s delve into the history and use of this natural herb first! Red Raspberry leaf tea is one of the most renowned herbal teas for women. (Sorry men – you can obtain some nutritional value and benefits from this herb as well; but for today it is all about the women.) Red Raspberry is a member of the rose family and is native to England, where the plants grow on graveled road sides and hedgebarks This tea has a wide reputation as a female tonic for relieving excessive menstrual bleeding. Also as I mentioned for pregnant women, it is used to relieve nausea, prevent nausea, prevent spotting, to tone the uterus in preparation for childbirth and to reduce the pain of childbirth.
I have to share a little story on that note. I have two step-daughters, I recommended this tea to both of them as soon as I found out they were pregnant. One drank the tea diligently because she really has a hard time dealing with pain. The other maybe drank the tea once. The daughter that did not drink the tea during her pregnancy dealt with the regular excruciating pain of labor and delivery; and she had her child first. When it was time for her sister to give birth she accompanied her to at the hospital. It was her younger sister’s first child and she wanted to be there for morale support and to coach her through the process. I was living out of town at the time and when she called to let me know her sister had a beautiful daughter, she also included the fact that her sister did not moan, cry, yelp, scream during the whole process. She said it was as if she wasn’t even in labor. I laughed to myself, and said “well that is because she drank Red Raspberry tea her entire pregnancy; you would not have suffered if you had did the same.” Now I am not saying this will be the case for everyone, but thus far every woman that I have recommended this tea to that is pregnant, and they took the tea as prescribed, I have always heard the same story (smile).
The nutritional value of the tea are: Aluminum, Calcium, Chromium, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Niacin, Phosphorus, Potassium, Riboflavin, Selenium, Silicon, Thiamine, Vitamin A, C,D,E,G,F and B ,Zinc.
Note: Red raspberry has a manganese content twice as high as any other herb making it the richest source of manganese.
It’s medicinal properties are: Astringent, antidiarrheal, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiemetic, emmenagogue, hemostatic, stimulant, stomachic.
The parts of the herb that is used are the leaves and the fruit.
Usage: Red raspberry, where mothers and babies are concerned as I mentioned earlier it is an herb made in heaven (smile). It can be taken throughout the pregnancy with very good results. It builds tissue to the extent that it prevents tearing of the cervix and of the uterus during birth. During childbirth also hemorrhaging is prevented, the contraction of the uterine muscles are regulated during delivery and it also reduces false labor pains prior to birth. Since the herb is high in iron it enriches early colostrums found in the mother’s milk. It also cleanses and prepares breasts for a pure milk supply for the nursing infant by cleansing and purifying the blood. It is also used to aid in morning sickness and to ease menstrual problems. Drinking the tea after birth will help decrease uterine swelling and cut down on post partum bleeding. It strengthens the walls of the uterus and the entire female reproductive system.
Drinking the tea during that time of the month will relieve painful menstruation and aid in the flow; if it is too heavy, it will decrease without abruptly stopping it. I have also found with some of my clients that are experiencing difficulty with a regulated menstruation cycle; for instance they may have a cycle every six months. Red Raspberry also promotes healthy nails, bones, teeth and skin. It is also wonderful for hot flashes! Yes it is good for women that are going through menopause and experiencing what I call “private summers.”
If you have never prepared a natural herbal tea before I have provided some tips below:
Typical Daily Usage: Fresh leaf: ¼ - ½ cup. Dried leaf: 6-12 gm. Extract: 9 gm dried leaf, 45 ml alcohol this is not rubbing alcohol (smile), 45 ml water this method is actually called a Tincture I have provided instructions below on how to prepare.
Using fresh or dried leaves should be prepared as a decoction: TIs generally used for thicker plant parts, such as bar, roots, seeds, or berries and you can find Red Raspberry berries. This method involves a more vigorous extraction of the plant’s active ingredients than an infusion. Heat the herb in cold water and simmer for up to 1 hour (do not bring the herbs to a boil) allow them to steep Infusion is simply another term for tea. This is the easiest way to take herbal remedies. To make an infusion, you simply boil the water and add the leaves, allow to steep, strain and drink the tea. The standard quantity should be made fresh each day and is enough for 3 doses. Drink hot or cold. Tincture: Plant components that are either insoluble or only partially soluble in water and can be extracted with solvents such as alcohol or glycerol. The herb is soaked in the solvent for a period of time, then pressed to render the tincture. Tinctures can preserve extracted ingredients for twelve months or more. This is made by steeping the dried or fresh herb in a 25% mixture of alcohol and water. Any part of the plant may be used. Besides extracting the plant’s active ingredients, the alcohol acts as a preservative. Tinctures should be made from individual herbs. Commercial tinctures use ethyl alcohol, but diluted spirits are suitable for home use. Vodka is ideal, since it contains few additives, although rum helps to disguise the flavor of less palatable herb.
