Reflections to Help Free You From Negative Emotions and Habits

Updated on October 5, 2016

Don't Let Negative Thoughts Weigh You Down - Let Go and Free Yourself

Learning to Let Go

How much do you need to let go of? Possibly everything you know and have learned up until this point. Letting go is a spiritual, emotional, mental and physical healing process. Sometimes it is a mysterious metaphysical process of releasing the things you are clinging to so tightly.

Let go of your grasp on people, outcomes, feelings, wants, needs, desires - everything. Let go of trying to control the process that is your life. Letting go takes faith. It is an action that allows us to trust that we're meant to have what we have, and be where we are meant to be.

There is magic in letting go. Letting go sets us free and connects us to our higher power. Letting go creates the optimum environment for the best possible outcomes and solutions.

Today, I will relax. Today, I will let go. I will let go of what is upsetting me, I will let go of what is bringing me down, I will let go of people who are bringing me down. I will let go of control and trust that everything that is meant to be, will be.

Letting Go of Control

Many of us have lived our lives trying to keep the whole world in orbit by our own mental force.

What would happen if we let go, if we stopped trying to keep the world in orbit and just let it whirl? Would the world end?

Would we all cease to exist? No, none of this would happen. The world would keep on rotating and we would all be fine.

You don't have to control the world. Control is an illusion, especially this kind of control. Control can even bring on negative actions and events, such as stress, disease, alcoholism and addiction, and eating disorders. Has trying to control everything ever worked out the way you wanted it to? Probably not.

Today, I will let go of the need to control the universe, and focus only on the things that are most important in my life. Today I will relax and know that everything will be okay even without my micro-managing.

The Language of Letting Go is my absolute favorite book of daily meditations. Melody Beattie is so insightful and I guarantee you that these reflections will co

Letting Go of Fear

Fear is a powerful emotion that can motivate us to try to control situations and cause us to neglect ourselves. For many of us, fear is a normal feeling, along with anxiety and sadness. Peace and serenity may be uncomfortable and awkward feelings to us at first.

Fear can protect us, it can shield us from emotions that are more painful and more dangerous. It is time to say good-bye to fear though. Now is the time to welcome in peace, trust, acceptance and safety. You don't need fear anymore.

Today I will feel safe without relying on fear. Today I will realize that I have no reason to be afraid and relinquish my fears to my higher power. I will replace my fear with peace.

Release Your Fear and You Will Find Peace

Letting Go of Chaos

Most of us, if not all of us, wish we could have more time in our day. We lead busy, hectic lives filled with chaos. We wake up and until the glorious moment that we get to go to sleep, we just keep running, running and running.

This kind of life will lead us down a bad path. We will feel stressed out, overexerted and angry. We will get mad when we can't get everything done we need to complete. We must let go of the chaos in our lives if we want to be happy, if we want to find peace.

Let go of the unrest. Allow peace to fill the void. Stop pressuring yourself to be everywhere at every minute of the day. Stop allowing chaos to run your life.

Today I will start my day knowing that I don't have to live in chaos. I will tune into my inner peace and accept that what needs to get done will get done, in its own time.

Letting Go of the Need to Be Perfect

Are you one of the many people chasing the false illusion of perfection? Stopping picking yourself about mercilessly while trying to be something you are not. Shame blocks from happiness and chasing perfection causes shame.

Much pain comes with trying to be perfect. Perfection is impossible unless you change your attitude of perfection. If you adopt a new attitude of perfection, defined by being who and where you are today, you can begin to love and accept yourself. You are where you need to be, you are who you were meant to be.

Today I will love and accept myself for who I am, where I am, and what I am doing in this moment. I am right where I need to be to get to where I want to be.

Self Criticism, Self Hatred and Self Deprication

Do you beat yourself up with unnecassary negative self talk?

Letting Go of Criticism

Do you beat yourself up and berate yourself for every imperfection in your life? If so, you need to stop this negative self talk. This type of attitude does you nothing but harm. We are all on a journey in this life - we all take steps forward, as well as backward. We are all flawed - yet we are all exactly who we were meant to be, so stop beating yourself up!

Learn to appreciate the tiny steps you make, just as you would the big steps. Take pride in your growth. Adopt an attitude of self-acceptance rather than self-criticism.

Today, I will learn to appreciate myself. I will stop the negative self-talk that does me no good. I will take pride in my strengths rather than focusing on my weaknesses.
