Blood donation is not only a noble deed but also need of the hour. There are multiple people all across the globe who are in need of blood to fight with their physical illness. Sadly, more than half of them do not get blood donor at the right time and hence have to suffer tremendous loss or sometimes loss of life too. But this can be stopped and we can save millions of lives with one simple solution which is Blood Donation. By donating blood you are not only saving a person's life but also helping yourself in multiple ways. You have heard it correctly! Blood donation has benefits for your own body as well. Let us see some remarkable benefits of donating blood.

Source

1) Removes Toxic Iron Bodies

The amount of iron which is required in our early growth phase, is not necessarily required at later stages. Accumulation if iron radicals creates toxicity and is harmful for nervous system. Excess of iron can also contribute to diabetic complications and other disorders like hemochromatosis.

The harmful free iron radicals can be washed by donating the blood. It helps in clearing the toxic iron and produces fresh iron bodies which in turn create hemoglobin.

2) Generates New Blood Cells

Generation of new blood cells in our body is necessary. This regeneration capacity reduces as our age increases. But by donating blood, you can actually rejuvenate your blood cells. The capacity of production of new blood cells rapidly increases. It acts as an immunity booster by generation of new and fresh blood cells. Since creation of new blood cells occur in bone marrow, donating blood also tends to keep our marrow healthy.

3) Reduces Cardiovascular Risk

Cardiovascular diseases are more likely to occur because of the improper circulation of blood through the coronary arteries which are arteries of heart. Due to the blood clots, the flow of blood becomes less. This can also occur because of atherosclerosis. It has been found that free toxic iron radicals are one of the causes which provoke occurrence of atherosclerosis.

Donating blood helps the arteries to release the harmful blood clots and leads to an improved and smoother blood circulation. This reduces the risk of occurrence of various cardiac diseases.

Donate Blood and be a reason of saving someone's life !

4) Can Save Receiver's Life

There are multiple emergencies and diseases where there is an urgent need for blood and most importantly, a particular group of blood. In cases of road traffic accidents where there is huge loss of blood, the victim's life is in danger. On the other hand, when a woman is giving birth to a baby and suffers from loss of blood, also needs it on emergency basis. At such times, your donated blood can save someone's life and help them recover.

5) Self Satisfaction

There is no other satisfaction than being a saviour for someone else. In our daily lives, when we help someone, we do feel better about it. After donating blood you will realize the level of self satisfaction which you will get. The feeling of pride is something which will always be cherished by you. And somewhere the person who will be in need and will get that blood, will always be grateful for you and bless you for the entire life.

Few things to remember before donating blood:

  • Make sure your hemoglobin and blood pressure is within normal range.
  • Consult your physician to can guide you properly through the entire process.
  • Hydrate plenty with water and juice before donating blood.
  • Do not go empty stomach for donating blood. This can cause dizziness and headache.
  • If you are on any medications, consult the doctor before going for blood donation.

I hope these important benefits might have opened your eyes and motivated you to think about donating blood. Blood donation is equally important to the donor and the receiver. There is no harm at all in donating blood unless you are already suffering from any ailment. But you can rule it out and take appropriate advice for the same from your doctor. Always remember that you can save life of someone by donating blood.

So do you plan to donate blood ?

Nice article. During my active work life I have given blood many times but later was asked not to give it due to some BP problem. I had many ackndgement cards also obtained from them and it helped me so much when I required blood for my wife during her major surgery about 15 years back.
