Self Care vs Self Indulgence
Do you know the difference? I was confused for a long time and felt guilty when ever I would practice self care thinking I was being self indulgent! I was far from wrong. The definition of self care is Self Care - Actions and attitudes which contribute to the maintenance of well being and personal health and promote human development. This can also include developing a spiritual life. The definition of self indulgence is Self Indulgence - Excessive or unrestrained gratification of one's own appetites desires, or whims to the exclusion of the needs of others. Self care goes within to the soul and our inner being and self indulgence goes outward and does not fulfill inner needs of our essence. Self care is a practice we need to cultivate in order to be fulfilled and have a space in our heart so we CAN help others. This is easier said than done. Self care needs to be practiced on a daily basis and grows with our consciousness. I must also include that not everyone in your life will be thrilled when you start practicing self care. I found recovery a few years ago and in my family I am the youngest and always was the peace maker in many situations. This practice always caused me great distress and I did not care for the role. When I started practicing self care and learning that word NO my family was far from thrilled. They thought I was being selfish and yes self indulgent by not stepping in and calming every heated situation. It took several times of me saying NO before I was heard. Do you have a situation were you can relate? I am sure you do. Self care is not always easy but self indulgence is, these are the differences and they are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
I encourage you to nurture your soul with self care and do not worry bout what others think! Yes this will take practice but it is so worth it. I find my consciousness and well being are on a different level and I feel closer to Spirit than I ever have before!! Bless you all! Mari
