Self Massage Your Way To Health and Happiness
Self Massage Techniques
Many people are aware that massaging has many positive effects on the human body but what people do not know is that self massaging can be one of the best gifts you can give to yourself. Contracting a massage therapist can become pricey and timely. With self massaging techniques you can save money, receive immediate relief, and experience a great sense of self-gratification. Your best assets for self massaging are literally at your fingertips. Your own hands are a great resource for bodily bliss.
Self Massaging Methods
There are three main self massaging methods – gliding, pressing, and drumming.
Gliding entails keeping your hands and fingers relaxed as you stroke the body in a circular motion, starting lightly and increasing the intensity by digging the palm of your hand into the needed area.
The pressing method is more of a squeezing technique which can also begin lightly and then gradually increase the intensity.
Drumming is great for improving circulation and releasing cramps because this method is done by thumping your fists on the legs or other area. If you start from the top and work your way to the bottom (from arms to legs) this will strengthen the body and stimulate blood circulation.
Instinctively, we rub our bellies after we eat – and for good reason. Rubbing your belly after you eat actually stimulates digestion. Typically, the most common way to self massage is a combination of the three methods which usually translates into rubbing and kneading soar or tight body parts.
How do you usually cure a headache, other than using medication?
Facial Self Massaging
Facial self massaging can be done to create a rosy complexion, relieve stress, build up your immunity, or open up your breathing passages.
After you have washed your hands, close your eyes and use your fingertips to fan the length of your forehead from the bottom to the top. Then create a circular motion on your temples and extend the fingers up to the scalp. Pinch your eyebrows. Use your thumbs to push up along the sides of your nose for sinus area tension. Relax and circulate around the jaw and cheek muscles.
Tug on your hair until it is slightly uncomfortable and then release.
Neck Self Massaging
Neck stress can be annoying and painful.
Use the heels of your hands and apply them to the sides of your neck. Slowly roll your hands over the sides of your neck. Focus on the areas that need the most attention. Use your fingers to apply pressure down your spine and continue to roll the heels of your hand in a circular motion along the sides.
Pinch your neck softly and gradually increase the intensity until you experience satisfaction and relief.
Self Massage Using a Sock and Rice
Self Massage With Household Items
Lastly, self massaging can also be administered using regular household items.
Fill a sock with sand or rice. Microwave the sock for about two minutes. Make sure it is not too hot and then gently rub the sock over your body.
Are your feet soar? Use a tennis ball or two to roll your bare feet over. If you happen to have several golf balls, put them in a shoe box and roll your feet over those. Pulling your toes can also feel very good.
Pamper Yourself...You're Worth It
Never underestimate the benefits and ease of a great self massage. Taking the time to pamper yourself can prove to be very beneficial. Self massaging is free, easy, and rewarding.
So, I have to ask. Have you ever performed a self massage with any other household items? Perhaps a tennis ball, golf balls, or a rolling pin? I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment about your experiences with self massages.
