Seven Secrets of Success

Updated on September 19, 2014

What Is Success?

Success means different things to different people. Dictionaries give one definition as simply being 'the accomplishment of ones goal' but many people would see it as the attainment of wealth, position, or honours of some kind. Each person is unique and for some success would be having a loving family, happy relationships, or financial security to others a career or vocation, perhaps being able to help others. So in some ways success is subjective.

Most people would agree that to be truly successful means experiencing happiness and fulfillment in more than one area of life. But if you know the steps to take to achieve success then the techniques and the results can be replicated in any area.

Be Specific

It is easy to have vague notions of what success would mean to you, lots of money, a big car, a job you love. The first step to success is to actually define what it would mean for you. Of course it may mean lots of different things but choose one area and decide what success in that area would mean for you. Be really specific and then set some very measurable goals to be achieved within a defined timeframe.

Once you have set the goals that will lead you too success, then do whatever it takes to achieve them. If you fail, just try again - to achieve success you need to be determined and tenacious.

Model Success &Take Action

Take a bit of time to consider people who are successful and look at what they have done and how they achieved this. There are usually common threads such as being focussed, making sacrifices and being prepared to take risks. Many successful people are quoted as saying they were not destroyed by failure.

But more importantly, who in your work or social circle has achieved what you strive for? Find someone and start to observe they way they do things, if possible talk to them about how they achieve their achieve success and then start to model those behaviours.

That is the most important step. You have to start doing it, doing something, doing almost anything. Action brings rewards you need to start taking action.

Take Action

An Attitude of Attraction

If you read about the laws of attraction - success and abundance in all areas of life are dependent upon your own attitude. Life is about energy and many believe we give out vibrations fro our own bodies and these can resonate with the universe in the energy and literally attract success. I know this may sound strange to the uninitiated but just think for a moment about when someone who is very down enters the room. Undoubtedly they give off a 'vibe' and this can easily have an impact on everybody in the room. How different it is when someone enters the room with lots of positive energy. You need to visualise success and fill you mind with thoughts of success.

To find out more about the laws of attraction and how you can harness these watch the video below.

Develop Success Habits

When you read biographies of really successful people often they talk about their habits. The particular habits vary according the the spheres they operate in but some common themes emerge

  • they work hard
  • they seek out opportunities
  • they are not put off by 'failure'
  • they are assertive and determined
  • they tend not to complain - after all it achieves little

It's easy to sit around waiting for a lucky break, and yes that does sometimes happen but more often success comes after a lot of hard work.

Be Prepared to Fail

Start Your Day Right

It is important each and every day to get of to the right start. Successful people are not usually the ones who lie in bed. But neither does it mean that the working day must start at 6am. How you begin the day is important and can have a dramatic impact on what you achieve in the day.

Get the basics right. Get enough sleep, have a healthy nutritious breakfast maybe start with some exercise or some meditation, whatever works best for you so that you don't start the day feeling sluggish but rather ready to march your way to your success.

Own Your Time

We all have 24 hours each day, that is one of life's great levellers. How we use those 24 hours is something that is under our control, for every one of us. Yes we may all have responsibilities and yes we all need to sleep BUT there are still several hours every day when we make choices about what we do. Take a moment to count up how many hours you spent this week watching TV. Then think how much of that time was spent watching things you just drifted into?

There is nothing wrong with relaxation, we all need it but hours can while away easily if we don't make the right decisions with regard to our time, and those hours could be spent working towards success.

Selective Support

It is also important when striving for success to be selective about who you let influence you. Friends and family may be supportive and can give helpful advice. But be careful which advice you listen to and act upon. If you are seeking success in business then get advice from someone who is successful. If you are striving for a fulfilling relationship then take advice form someone who ahs the kind of relationship you want.

But support is important and it is a good idea to surround yourself with people who can give support and advice, people who have been where you are now but have then experienced the type of success you are visualise. When you find someone like that be open to what they have to say and take their advice.

What Next

Success is possible but you must first believe that it is possible - don't let your own negativity stand in the way. But if you are not yet where you want to be in life then a change is needed. Something different has to happen so think outside the box, take a risk, be prepared to fail even but DO something if you want to be successful.
